Jun 5, 2015 8:41 AM in response to Cecil Givenby FoxFifth,You don't need to have a remote app. If Find My Mac was turned on in System Preferences - iCloud before it was lost you may be able to locate it using an internet browser on another computer. There is information on how to do that in If your Mac is lost or stolen - Apple Support
The last section of that link has the information quoted below that you may want to do if you can't locate it and includes some methods that may help you find your serial number if you need that for reporting to law enforcement.
Find My Mac is the only Apple service that can help track or locate a lost Mac. If you didn’t set up Find My Mac before your Mac was lost, or you can’t locate it, these steps might help you protect your data:
- Change your Apple ID password to prevent anyone from accessing your iCloud data or using other services (such as iMessage or iTunes) from your Mac.
- Change your passwords for other accounts you use with your Mac, including email, banking, and social sites like Facebook or Twitter.
- Report your lost or stolen Mac to local law enforcement. They might request the serial number of your computer. You can find this information on the original box or receipt you received when you purchased your Mac, or on Apple's My Support Profile site if you registered your Mac.

Jun 5, 2015 9:02 AM in response to FoxFifthby Cecil Given,Thanks, have changed passwords and user id's. Won't have serial number until I finish a trip, don't have Find my Mac. Thought Apple might be able to remotely disable it.
