Q: iPhoto gets an error message saying it cannot delete original photos anymore.

Hi,

I've always owned iPhones and Macs. Now all of a sudden, when I hook my iPhone 6 up to my Macbook Pro and iPhoto opens up, it loads the new photos, but now when the message that pops up and says, "do you want to keep the original photos or delete them" , it will not delete them anymore. it says it gets and error message and cannot delete the originals.  What is going

iPhone 6

Did you enable iCloud Photo Library on your iPhone?  Then you cannot delete the photos anymore directly from your Mac after import, because the photos are syncing with iCloud. You will have to delete them on the iPhone using the photos.app, if you want to use iCloud Photo Library on the iPhone.

thanks Leonie. I kinda figured that might have been the new problem. I had just turned on iCloud recently. What  a pain then. I guess I'll turn it off. I really don't like having to delete each photo on the phone. Thanks again.

Have you tried connecting the phone to your Mac and launching Image Capture to delete all or all selected photos from your phone?

Image Capture does not show the "delete" option either, OT, when iCloud Photo Library is enabled, at least not for my iPhone %s and iPad 3 with iOS 8. Turning iCloud Photo Library off will bring the delete option back.

It makes sense, somehow. Since the photos on the phone are synced from iCloud, they need to be removed from iCloud to get them off the phone. Otherwise they would right sync back.
