I bought an unlocked iPhone 6, the seller verified the unlocked status with verizon. The phone activates with at&t sim. I am trying to use the phone in Nepal with Nepalese carrier sim but could not activate with Nepalese sim. Please help me to activate the phone. Is there anything to change in settings to activate the phone outside US ?

Yes, there is no Nepalese carrier on the list. But I am using iphone 5s in Nepal with Nepalese carrier. My friends are suggesting the Jailbreak, will there be any problem in the functions if I do it ?

There is your answer regarding jailbreak. Unauthorized modification of iOS can cause security vulnerabilities, instability, shortened battery life, and other issu…

The device won't activate with the Nepalese carrier because as the other poster stated, there are no supported carriers for the iPhone. That is necessary for the activation.

If there is no supported carrier, then you will not be able to use the device, since it will not be able to support the carrier file. You can try and make changes to the APN, but if the device has another carrier file on it, you may not be able to access the APN.

Then it probably isn't unlocked. Are you sure the unlock was completed? You also mention an AT&T SIM. How are you sure it activates with AT&T?

the seller said he confirmed with verizon about the unlocked status. i used at&t sim in the phone and it accepted the sim and i can set the phone as new or i can connect to itunes. I cannot make a call as I dont have AT&T network in Nepal. For Nepalese sim, it displays SIM not valid. I checked with at&t about the phone, they replied that the phone is not from their network.

Once I use the AT&T sim and open the phone functions, I can still use the phone without sim for all other functions, like taking pics, browsing internet, playing games. But when I insert the Nepalese sim, it displays SIM not valid

So, you activated it with the AT&T SIM, and then put the Nepalese SIM in and it says not valid? Then I suggest you find out from the Nepalese cellular carrier if their device can support the iPhone 6. It also sounds as if the carrier file loaded on the phone is the AT&T carrier file, and if that is the case, then you will not be able to make changes to the APN, which is probably necessary for the Nepalese carrier. Go to Setting>General>About>Carrier, what do you see there?

Chris, All Verizon iPhones are unlocked for GSM use, worldwide. Even older phones, from the 4S on. Verizon did a blanket unlock of all phones that support GSM a few months ago. (The also screwed up and unlocked CDMA iPhone 4's, for GSM, but that's a whole 'nother thread.)

That's true, I remember that now. But I'm guessing that when they activated the device with the AT&T SIM, the loaded the AT&T carrier file, which will prevent them from making changes to the APN, and something is wrong with the Nepalese SIM that is not allowing it to activate the unlocked phone. Thoughts on that part?

That's a good possibility. But the Nepalese carrier should be able to help with a carrier update, as they clearly support iPhones, even if they aren't officially a partner carrier. There are many non-partner carriers around the world that support iPhones, such as Iran and Pakistan.

One thing to try is to do an iOS Restore using iTunes. That should overwrite AT&T carrier settings. Do it with the Nepalese SIM in the phone.

Not a bad thought. Sometimes a extra set of eyes will help. Now if the OP will read this. Thanks Lawrence.

It has AT&T in APN. I took it to a service center (not apple). The phone did not work with T-Mobile Sim either. The service center guy suggested that the phone may be unlocked only for various & at&t. Is it possible?

    Lawrence

Nepalese carers are supported in Iphones, I am using iPhone 5s. I tried to restore the phone with Nepalese Sim but when I insert the Sim the phone displays Sim not Valid, and I cannot proceed further
