Apr 26, 2015 11:14 PM in response to petermac87by Kootkid,How would reverting back to a prior version of the software be against anything? It's still the same product? My concern about reverting is that Apple may work something into future versions that will make Lion, etc not supported. I understand why they want people to migrate to the newer platforms as it keeps the development moving forward and means supporting fewer older versions. But when a new product takes users backwards in performance and functionality, that's whats going to happen. If my new tv isn't as good as my old one, I'll switch back. Ditto here. And if people get 'Shutdown' on this site, which I am already seeing, Apple will be hurting themselves, not users.

Apr 26, 2015 11:22 PM in response to Kootkidby petermac87,These forums represent less than.01% (and being generous) of Mac users. There are always complaints here after any upgrade and change. Most learn to adapt quickly. Don't take these posts as a representation of Mac Users worldwide. Photos will improve. IPhoto was a disaster at the beginning as well and drew the same comments and now everybody is saying how great it is. I am waiting for it to be developed further as well but I know I will be using it at some future stage. Other than that Yosemite has never given me an issue.
Cheers

Apr 26, 2015 11:39 PM in response to Kootkidby EveryUserName HasBeenTaken,Not to interrupt. But reverting back to an old OS X, will develop into other issues. Each OS is intended to be used across the entire Apple platform, iPad, iPhone, iLife, etc...
So by reverting to an old OS other issues will develop over time with communicating with your devices and so on. Its just better to adjust to it.
People who use older OS are usually developers with system ideas of their own. I myself have been looking for a solution to an old OS issue.
The good news is that iPhoto's can be used still. For now.
Don't worry about being shut down. Some people forgot about the 'community' portion of the site.

Apr 26, 2015 11:59 PM in response to petermac87by EveryUserName HasBeenTaken,Experience. Had issues with an older version of OS which couldn't be upgraded due to hardware issues. I still maintain it, but it won't sync via iCloud. Its a very old OS though. But now I'm seeing repeating issues with older versions of iOS. ( ( -50 error )
Its just then method of development.
But I'm sure you'll have issue with this too.

Apple MusicYes, I differentiate between non-edited and edited versions by adding characters - for example "c" for cropped, "e" for some form of editing, "nr" for no red-eye after removing them. There are also software packages that add their own extra characters - e.g. DXPro. Copying edited versions across to the other triplicate collections is manual and easy because I know in which folder I am and can have all three open in Finder simultaneously. And I hardly ever bother about places and faces and only use them on my main library, the others are essentially back-ups. As for the kind of indexing faces and places provide, they are implicit in the titles I give the folders. So I don't depend on them. Not ideal, but a reasonably solid compromise I think.

Apr 27, 2015 8:17 AM in response to petermac87by Kootkid,I Agree with your comments but for now things are frustrating. However, I do have one other problem with Yosemite that maybe you can help me with. Here's the chronology. I updated my MacBook pro and when I first used Airdrop with my iMac, I found I had to look for an older iMac in airdrop in order to connect with my iMac . My iMac had no trouble seeing my MacBook and the file transfer was fine. I also have an old iMac and it had no trouble with either machine (and it is probably two years back on its platform. So I decided to uodate my iMac and when I then tried everything to use Airdrop my MacBook pro can't see my updated iMac . What do I do to get it to work. My iMac sees it and works with the older platform just the MacBook doesn't.

Apr 27, 2015 8:28 AM in response to Kootkidby Nickiwi,I've never tried AirDrop, I use DropCopy - free from the AppStore, works with all our Macs, I've never tried it with a Windows or Linux machine though.
Why not try it?

This was discussed on the first page of this thread. See the discussion between Tom Wolsky and christopher rigby on page 1.

Jun 6, 2015 8:15 AM in response to petermac87by lou77h,Well as i have yosamite with iPhoto 8.2.1 which is not in my purchase history, or hidden, therefore i am unable to use or update it, since apple want to make this impossible when discontinued it. In favour of the new and useless photos.

Jun 6, 2015 2:15 PM in response to lou77hby petermac87,These things happen when you don't keep your Mac up to date. That is why updates are released.
Sorry

Jun 6, 2015 5:30 PM in response to petermac87by Nickiwi,petermac87, that is a MOST unhelpful remark.
We used to be able to roll forwards from almost any previous version of Mac OS X and its various applications.
However in the last couple of years or so Apple seem to consider the user, WHO MAY WELL NOT HAVE THE TIME for all the updates as they occur, to need to jump through their hoops in the right order immediately without warning. The disappearance of iPhoto from the App Store unless one has PURCHASED it previously (i.e. not received it bundled with a new machine) is scandalous.
Removing iPhoto just because Photos is released is irresponsible and a betrayal of the users. Photos is grossly and obviously vastly inferior to iPhoto. Why does Apple do this? It's really shooting itself in the foot. Loyal customers who have often spent tens of thousands of dollars or Euros or Pounds etc. over the years deserve MUCH better.
