Open the Messages app, click on the Accounts tab, and sign in with your Apple ID.

I am sorry, what am I missing? When I click on the messages icon there is no account tab? Am I looking at the wrong thing?

When you open Messages, in the top menu bar, you will see "Messages". Click on that, and in the dropdown, you will see Preferences. Click on that, and a window will open that has the Account Option:

Ok, thank you so much, the picture helped me a lot. I got my messages back online now. Maybe you can tell me two more things...

    1. How do I take a screen shot on my Mac Book Pro

    2. I had to change my APPLE ID  from an AOL address a couple of months ago per Apple request to a different e-mail server. Even though I am always signed in now with my new Apple ID I continually get a pop up box on all my devices asking me to sign in with the PW for my old Apple ID even though that is NOT my Apple ID anymore. How can I stop that?

    Hi,

    1.     To take a screenshot, you can click on Shift+Command+4+Space Bar, then click to take the shot. Mine show up at the top of the list under "All My Files" in the Finder

    2.     When you "changed' your Apple ID, did you go to My Apple ID and literally EDIT the old AOL address to a new one, or did you set up a brand new Apple ID? Also, was the old AOL one an actual email address? I would need to know the answer to those two questions to be able to give you a clear answer to your question

    Cheers,

Ok, I did take the screen shot but I've not been able to find where it is yet.

As far as the Old Apple ID, I edited it from old AOL e-mail to new Yahoo e-mail. Never created a new account

You didn't see your screenshots in your Finder:

As for your old ID - did you sign it out of everything on all your devices:

    Messages

    FaceTime

    iCloud

    iTunes & App Store

What is going on when the pop-up displays?

I may not have signed out of everything on all my devices...iPad, iPad mini, iPhone, iPod, Mac Book Pro. I'll check that tomorrow as well as look more for my screen shots. I'll be in touch if I need help. I really appreciate all your patience and help tonight Gail!! I really do mean that!! It's midnight in Houston and after a 10 hour work day today, I need to look at this again tomorrow

    Goodnight and thank you again
