Jun 6, 2015 1:28 PM in response to invi51blemanby Niel,Photos is a newer application. People who still want to use iPhoto can open it from the Applications folder(this is accessible through the Finder’s Go menu), but may need to update it to version 9.6.1 first.

Jun 6, 2015 5:15 PM in response to invi51blemanby Old Toad,iPhoto was not deleted from your hard drive, only removed from the Dock. If you have iPhoto 9.6.1 you can still use your iPhoto library. If you don't have that version but some earlier version of 9.x try following Terence Devlin's iinstructions in this post to obtain iPhoto 9.6.1 from the App Store:

Re: Is Iphoto gone ? i want it back!
Recommended
Go to the App Store and check out the Purchases List. If iPhoto is there then it will be v9.6.1
If it is there, then drag your existing iPhoto app (not the library, just the app) to the trash
Install the App from the App Store.
Sometimes iPhoto is not visible on the Purchases List. it may be hidden. See this article for details on how to unhide it.

One question often asked: Will I lose my Photos if I reinstall?
iPhoto the application and the iPhoto Library are two different parts of the iPhoto programme. So, reinstalling the app should not affect the Library. BUT you should always have a back up before doing this kind of work. Always.

Why did iPhoto get replaced with Photos? Photo sharing between Mac computers and iPhones, portable devices may be better in this sense, but i don't have an iPhone. I liked iPhoto much better for sharing to Social Media sites such as Facebook. Apple will lose more consumers because of this change. I'm starting to use my Windows PC laptop again for photo sharing to Facebook instead of my Mac. I wanted to buy a Macbook Pro but now because of this, I'm changing my mind.
Heard on the car radio - windows 10 (they are skipping 9) sounds like it will be same as Yosemite - geared toward sharing across multiple devices.
So applications will be modified to run across same.
Both are designing applications for touch screen/tablets/phone use leaving out desktop users who are just not interested.
Here are some photos sites that may help you & feedback to apple (realistically apple is going to drop IPHOTO).

Jun 7, 2015 12:14 AM in response to notcloudyby LeVignoble,I have a 'sharing issue' since Photos was loaded onto my machine. I prefer to use iPhoto but the sharing options are now greyed out. I wanted to upload a couple of Books from iPhoto, but can't do that now. All my internet connections work fine. I can share through Photos but no longer from iPhoto.
Any thoughts? Have some settings been changed during upgrade?
