Can I highlight text and make notes?
Yes, iBooks includes built-in Highlight and Note features. Highlight any word or passage of text within a book. You can also create a Note from your highlighted selection. Review your Highlights and Notes by tapping the Table of Contents button and then tapping Bookmarks. Highlights and Notes appear in their own section under Bookmarks.

Jun 8, 2015 10:12 AM in response to varjak pawby llee,Is this answer for iBooks for Mac, or iBooks for iPad, or both? If for iBooks for iPad, does this answer apply only to latest versions of iOS and iBooks for a certain model iPad, or for any the latest version of iBooks on any iPad that can use the latest version of iBooks? I have an iPad 3rd gen. and I can't find a way to add a bookmark using the latest version of iBooks for iOS 8.3. Or am I having trouble finding out how because I am attempting to apply the bookmark to a PDF. I can apply a bookmark to a PDF page, but I can't attach a bookmark or a text note to highlighted text.

Jun 8, 2015 11:10 AM in response to lleeby King_Penguin,The answer was for books on iOS devices (the OP has iPad 2 on the tagline/bottom of their post) - as far as I know the ability to use bookmarks, add notes and highlight text has been available since the first version (notes may have been a couple months after the initial release) of iBooks (the iPad generation doesn't matter). It applies to iBooks on Macs as well.
What you can do depends upon whether it's an ibook or a PDF (and potentially upon the PDF ; I can bookmark pages on the PDFs that I have on my iPad, but I can't add notes or highlights to them). If you want to add notes or highlights to PDFs you may have to use a different app.
