Q: It is just me? Holding phone near reader...

When I go to use Apple Pay, everything works up until the point when I have to use my finger print. The device keeps saying "hold device close to reader." Well... Dang! I'm right on top of the thing! I keep hitting my finger to the button, again and again. Sometimes it takes. Most times it doesn't. I have to punt and use my debit card. Is it me?

NOTE: the finger print ID works fine on my phone for other purposes... signing in... buying stuff in the app store, etc.

    Good Afternoon dastoelk,

If you are having issues with Apple Pay and your iPhone, here are a few suggestions:

    • Update your iOS to the latest version on your iPhone.
    • Reset your iPhone

Take a look at the resource below which explains how use Apple Pay:

Set up and use Apple Pay on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support
    https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201239

Pay with Apple Pay in stores

To pay with Apple Pay using your default card, hold your iPhone within an inch of the contactless reader with your finger held on Touch ID without pressing it. (You can watch the demo to see how it works.) If you need to choose between Credit or Debit on the terminal, we recommend that you choose Credit to get the most consistent Apple Pay experience. Choosing Debit might not always work with some older merchant payment terminals and backend systems.

Pay with a different card on your iPhone:

    1. Hold your iPhone near the contactless reader without placing your finger on Touch ID. Your iPhone will wake up, and you'll see your default card on your screen.
    2. Tap your default card. From the list of cards, tap the one you want to use.
    3. Place your finger on Touch ID and move your iPhone near the reader to complete the payment. You might also need to sign a receipt, depending on the store and the transaction amount.

    Have a great day!

    - Judy

I've been having this problem too - seems like since 8.3 update - it worked before that, I've tried restoring the phone, and am now on 8.4... no change still doesn't work.
