1. I attached my iPhone for downloading/syncing...
2. I clicked on the little phone icon on my menu bar
3. I right-clicked on the Settings which brought a pop-up menu and I clicked Transfer previous purchases
4. This prompted a statement from the iTunes store saying once again my computer was not authorized... but this time it didn't give me the statement that says go to iTunes to fix - it said do you want to authorize this computer .... YEAH!!! FINALLY
I truly hope this helps someone as it was extremely frustrating to try and resolve this

Because there are no "preferences" for iTunes store and no one suggested to do this.
As noted, go to iTunes menu Store > Authorize this computer.
