From your post it sounds like you are importing your music from CDs into iTunes and later you notice that the music is no longer there. It seems to me that there may be an issue with the library itself because this is highly unexpected behaviour but would first check to see if there are any 3rd party plug ins that may be causing this to happen with this article:
iTunes: Troubleshooting issues with third-party iTunes plug-ins
If there are none, or you remove them and the issue persits, then I would next backup the library:
Back up your iTunes library by copying it to an external drive
Then recreate the library:
iTunes: How to re-create your iTunes library and playlists

Should anything go inexplicably missing you can spot such an error during a preview and restore the missing files from the backup.
