Jun 5, 2015 10:02 AM in response to millerrh512by Candice78,Millerrh512, I might have missed this, but have you tried wearing your wife's watch on one wrist, and your other updated watch on the other, and doing a test and seeing how they compare? Would be curious to know the results.

Jun 5, 2015 10:38 AM in response to Candice78by millerrh512,Candice78, I did not try on her watch. The reason is that all her stats are in there, so it will not calculate the same. Although now that I think about it, I'm not really trying to compare her watch to mine, I'm trying to see how consistent each watch is with itself. So maybe I will try this. Good idea.

Jun 9, 2015 6:27 PM in response to Jcannonbby stevenpj777,
I just returned my, sadly, to the Apple store today. It was way past the 14 day return policy, but I called and complained to the Apple Care rep after they reported back that the removal of the functionality was intentional. They agreed to accept the return. -
Jun 10, 2015 9:49 AM in response to stevenpj777by Knowafewthings,HI Steven,
Could you (or any other contributor) clarify for me exactly what functionality has been removed? After 22 pages this thread is getting very confusing. Is it just that the watch only monitors HR and gives Activity credit when you have selected a workout?
The original software recorded HR every 10 minutes but detected when I was walking fast and gave me Activity credit. What does 1.0.1 do differently?
I want to keep my watch because Monday night's WWDC promised lots of good things for Watch OS 2.0 but I don't want to go to 1.0.1 if it wrecks my current enjoyment.
I hope you can help.

Jun 10, 2015 9:57 AM in response to Knowafewthingsby bobv190,Version 1.0.1 only records your heart rate every 10 minutes when you are inactive and your arm is still. For me that means while I am sleeping (I wear my watch while sleeping) and maybe sitting quietly at my desk or watching TV. Otherwise it doesn't measure your HR when not in workout mode.
Nothing has changed in workout mode, it still measures your HR every 5s.
Some have speculated that the change in 1.0.1 affected the calorie burn calculations .. I don't know about that as I don't monitor that very closely.
I was PO'd when I first went to 1.0.1, but I guess I have gotten over it, and for me, it is no big deal now. I too am looking forward to watchOS 2.0 .. it will be a major step forward.

Jun 10, 2015 11:18 AM in response to bobv190by Knowafewthings,Thanks BobV
Seems that the watch will record my resting heart rate when I am resting and my active heart rate when I am in a Workout. That doesn't sound too bad to me. As long as it still knows when I am 'power walking' without being told and gives me Activity credit I will remain happy.

My experience is that it's not very good at picking up on activity when not in a specific Workout. It is nearly impossible for me to fill my rings if I do workouts without the Workout app, conversely, I can lap them 3 times doing similar workouts when I do use the Workout app.

Jun 10, 2015 12:30 PM in response to Knowafewthingsby pagemakers4,Ian not quite I'm afraid!!
If will record your resting heart rate when you are resting and TOTALLY STILL.
Sometimes it doesn't record your resting heart rate for 10+ hours or more!!
Even if you are vegging on the sofa watching TV, if you move your arm, say to drink a coffee to turn the TV over, chances are it won't record your resting heart rate.
It's quite pathetic at the moment.

Jun 10, 2015 3:33 PM in response to pagemakers4by Knowafewthings,Thanks people. The last two comments have left me speechless. Since Apple hasn't put forward a single advantage to updating I can wait for 2.0. Surely things will improve when third parties have access to the sensors. Unless of course Apple has hobbled them through firmware changes. How can Apple still call this a sports watch? Just realised it doesn't. Marketing has called it a Watch Sport. So if I just spectate it works fine perhaps.

Jun 14, 2015 11:05 PM in response to D'AnconiaCopperby Candice78,So I have been talking to Apple Care about this for several days. I had two issues: 1) the stupid heart rate issue and 2) because of the update, my exercise ring certainly does NOT record anything over brisk walking. Apple Care told me that the two issues are unrelated to one another (though I disagree). They asked me to send some screen shots of certain workouts where the exercise ring did not register after outdoor walks (i.e., 20 minute walk and only 5 minutes of exercise time even though high heart rate etc). Apple Care called me back and said they are working on it and hope to have an update soon. Fingers crossed, but thought you guys might want to know about it.

Jun 17, 2015 11:01 AM in response to rsbell66by Candice78,Nothing yet. I've just resigned to the facts that 1) an update will hopefully be coming and 2) watchOS 2 is supposed to be way better and will have stand alone apps. I know this is a first generation so there are bound to be kinks along the way. It's frustrating but at the end of the day, I told myself that I would love a Fitbit type of device that also sent and received text messages and phone calls. So the watch does do all of this and more. I think there is more to come so I'm trying to stay patient!
