Q: Is support.me a scam or real virus support for apple products?

It's a scam

Support.me is part of LogMeIn Rescue which is legitimate. However, LogMeIn is software to allow remote access to your computer, and the people who were trying to utilize support.me were scammers and you should not allow them access.

Yes. Since you didn't allow them remote access, and it doesn't sound like you gave them any information like credit card numbers, phone numbers, Apple ID, etc. you are fine.

I feel vindicated but am still worried by whatever caused the pop up window in the first place. should i be?

It just happened to me

there was a pop up and a phone number to call

1(855) 482-2632

after on the phone and having downloaded 2 programs (LMI Rescue which turned to Support-LogMeInRescue and join.me)

I was suspicious since apple has never had me download a program to do any trouble shooting.

luckily for me the file wouldn't open, he asked me to go to preferences and allow downloads from anywhere. this made me weary.

So I asked who he was with and he told me LMI RESCUE mac technical support.

I asked him then to hold for a second and opened Chrome to do a quick search. The guy hung up within 15 seconds.

I can't find this link and I'm afraid I did allow access to my computer. They did 'fix' the virus, I think. all the ads have stopped popping up. Originally,   I got a message 'from' Safari saying to call this number for tech support. It went to LogMe in and then to support.me as they suggested.  They have continued to answer my phone calls when I called back.. I've changed all my passwords, etc. and alerted my card. Could you send the link again please?

The same happened to me.

I really don't know a lot of computers so I followed her instructions.

I downloaded the app and allowed her access.

She showed me how slow my MacBook is working and told me that I have a virus on it.

She convinced me that she could fix it within 4-6h.

She asked me for my e-mail address so she can sent me the bill for that service.

It would have cost 250$ and monthly 19,00$ for the following support.

I told them that I don't have that much money.

So tried to convince me but finally she quite out of my computer and now everything is working fine.

I deleted the app I downloaded.

But should I be still concerned? Should I bring my laptop to an expert to fix it?

Can I make transactions on my computer or will they know my credit card number then?

This just happened to a friend of mine - he allowed remote access and gave his bank name and a check number ugh. I told him to call his bank first then apple support. What else can he do? Any idea what he should expect as far as pain in the a** identity theft stuff?

You now have a virus of some sort, you need to get this repaired from a legitimate source.  That was a scam..   THERE IS NO WAY ANYONE FROM MICROSOFT OR APPLE WILL CALL YOU TO FIX YOUR COMPUTER!!!!

YOU SHOULD BE VERY CONCERNED AND DEFINATELY BRING YOUR LAPTOP TO A REPUTABLE SOURCE TO FIX IT..

DO NOT DO TRANSACTIONS ON YOUR COMPUTER they will know everything you do..

No reputable company will EVER call you to fix your computer, it just does not work that way..

OK, I did not have my spy radar on yesterday Friday Sept. 2 2016.  Was taken to the bank.  What can I do now?
