Jun 11, 2015 11:13 AM in response to PhatPiggyby Bob Timmons,We already spent quite a bit of time on this with you in this thread.
How can I get a devise that only works on 2.4 to access the airport?
What is different now from before?

I followed your instructions and it wiped out my old network. I had to reestablish the network and reconnect all my devices. I do not want that. I just want to create a new network w/o wiping out the current settings for the network.
Thanks,
Thomas

Jun 11, 2015 2:51 PM in response to PhatPiggyby Bob Timmons,Not sure what you mean when you say that the settings wiped out your old network.
The settings that I gave you would have only changed the name of the 5 GHz network. The 2.4 GHz network name would have stayed the same.
You can set things up manually again if you want.
Open up AirPort Utility, click on Manual Setup and click the Wireless tab below the row of icons.
Enter the name of the 2.4 GHz network that you want to use here.
Now click the Wireless Options button near the bottom of the window, and another window will open that looks like this:
Enter a check mark in the box next to 5 GHz Name and that will automatically assign 5 GHz to the 5 GHz network name
Click Done
Click Update and the new settings will be saved.
This is the only way to do what you want. There are no other options.
Once you do this, you will need to select either the name of your normal network.....which is the 2.4 GHz signal
or
Select the name of the network with 5 GHz added.....which is the 5 GHz signal
The password is the same for both networks

Jun 11, 2015 3:14 PM in response to Bob Timmonsby PhatPiggy,Thanks Bob. I was able to follow your instructions and created a new 5GHz network. Unfortunately, the camera still cannot pick up the regular 2.4GHz network. Very strange. Maybe it has to do with the name, which you eluded before. It has a special character. What is the best way to change the name w/o affecting the network settings?

Jun 11, 2015 3:42 PM in response to PhatPiggyby Bob Timmons,Nothing has changed. These are the same instructions that I gave you before.
All you need to do is edit/change the name of the regular network on the wireless settings page
Keep the name of the network short and simple
No special characters
Use only normal letters and numbers
No blank spaces
Click Update to save the new network name(s).

Jun 11, 2015 4:09 PM in response to Bob Timmonsby PhatPiggy,Bob, can you give me the instructions again. It is strange. When I go in to change the name, I lose connection. It is like it won't let me change the name. I can but I lose connection. Once I go back and change it back to phatpiggy's, I get a connection. Any idea why this is happening?

Jun 11, 2015 4:13 PM in response to PhatPiggyby Bob Timmons,Of course you lose the connection......you changed the name of the network.....and your Mac does not know what to do.
Make the changes in AirPort Utility
Wait a minute for the AirPort router to restart and display a green light
Then click the WiFi icon at the top of the Macs screen and select the new network you named

Jun 11, 2015 4:21 PM in response to Bob Timmonsby PhatPiggy,I do not mean I lose temp connection. I lose the connection permanently. I cannot connect. I have to keep reverting it to the original name for me to re-establish connection. I can list the 5GHz name to PhatPiggy and it works. However, the normal for some reason, I cannot change. If I change it, I lose connection altogether. I have to change it back for me to get a connection for either the 2.4 or 5. It sounds strange but that is what is happening. Any ideas?

Jun 11, 2015 4:26 PM in response to PhatPiggyby Bob Timmons,You mean, you name a new network "network" in AirPort Utility, and once the AirPort restarts, you can't connect to "network"?
If that is the case, I cannot duplicate that error. Perhaps another user can help.

Jun 11, 2015 4:32 PM in response to Bob Timmonsby PhatPiggy,No, I change PhatPiggy's Wifi to PhatPiggy and I lose the connection permanently. I have to revert it back to PhatPiggy's for me to regain connection. Once I do that, I can create the 5GHz to PhatPiggy. However, the camera still cannot pick it up. If I can change the regular network to PhatPiggy, it may work. However, it is not allowing me to make the change.

Jun 11, 2015 4:46 PM in response to PhatPiggyby LaPastenague,Always start from factory reset.. Do not change the name of existing wireless..
Clear out all settings.. factory reset the AE
Factory reset universal
Power off the AE.. ie pull the power cord or power off at the wall.. wait 10sec.. hold in the reset button.. be gentle.. power on again still holding in reset.. and keep holding it in for another 10sec. You may need some help as it is hard to both hold in reset and apply power. It will show success by rapidly blinking the front led. Release the reset.. and wait a couple of min for the AE to reset and come back with factory settings. If the front LED doesn’t blink rapidly you missed it and simply try again. The reset is fairly fragile in these.. press it so you feel it just click and no more.. I have seen people bend the lever or even break it. I use a toothpick as tool.
In the computer you run the setup on.. clear out all the existing wireless network names.. reboot the computer and start over.
In the setup wizard with the airport utility use your new name.. and make sure it complies with the rules for every network OS to join..
Short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
Passwords should also comply but longer, mixed case and numbers is fine.

Jun 11, 2015 4:50 PM in response to PhatPiggyby Bob Timmons,I can't explain that one, but I suspect that the keychain (which saves the names and passwords) in Windows is confused and corrupted due to all the changes.....but I don't have a PC here to test with. Maybe a PC guy can help us out.
But sooner or later, I think that you will need to reset the AirPort back to factory default settings and then start all over again.
Use a completely different device name for the AirPort, and different wireless names and passwords if you decide to do this....to avoid conflicts with the stored names and passwords in the Windows keychain.
Would also be better if you had a Mac or an iPhone or iPad to use for the setup, since Apple has not updated the Windows software in over 3 years.

Jun 11, 2015 4:50 PM in response to LaPastenagueby PhatPiggy,You mean "revert?" I do not see an option to reset on the wireless option tab.

No not revert..
I said FACTORY RESET.
I then gave instructions on how to reset.. here they are ..
AGAIN
