Q: this apple id is valid but not an icloud account

When I try to sign into the iCloud  from my system preferences, I get this message "this apple id is valid but not an icloud account"

But I'm able to sign into icloud.com, itunes. My email and calendars are not synching.  Can someone please help.  Thanks.

It's useless, nobody going to answer, i have same problem with iCloud and app store too, iTunes works for some reason, as many times i have try to solve login issues with apple accounts... NOTHING!!! I can't understand what is wrong with apple accounts.

And yet you provide no information along with the whining. If you have the same problem it is because you are running Windows.

    Start your own thread.

I am trying to set up icloud on my windows platform, windows 8.  I am receiving the same message when trying to set up iCloud - this apple id is valid but is not an iCloud account.  No kidding, I'm trying to set one up.  My only apple product is a very old, non supported ipod touch that I cant set up, either.  I have restarted four times.

You can not create a new iCloud account using Windows.

And still you can't be bothered to supply info about your problem, just more complaint,

Others in this thread stopped complaining and fixed the problem, good luck with your method

You have not even identified what type of computer you use, and you are very insulting so excuse me if I leave you to it.

    I contacted Apple Support.

    They fixed the problem :

When I tried to log into Icloud with the downloaded program on my pc an error would say : The Apple ID is Valid but not an Icloud account.

The fix was to goto settings, then icloud. sign in with your apple id.

then I was able to sign into the program on my PC.

then I was able to sign into Icloud.com and all my contacts moved over.

So you do have an account, this is a little odd. I must ask ... you are signing into iCloud (in system preferences) using the same login as you do for iCloud.com?

Restart the machine and try again.
