Q: When i connect/install my Airport time  capsule must i create a new network?

When installing my Airport Time Capsule must i create a new network or can i use my existing networK. I live in Japan, my provider set up my modem and router. I want my Time Capsule to be set up basically as a backup device. What are the advantages of creating a new network? Will the time capsule recognise the IP address provided to my by me provider?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.4)

Plug it into whatever router your ISP provided.

Put it in bridge mode and create a wireless network.. then you can join to the TC wireless network or to the ethernet from the TC and backup easily.. it will cause not issue to your existing network.. and will allow both internet and backup to happen .. no settings on your current network will change.

You need to have it permanently connected by ethernet to the existing router.. just so you understand that.
