Device Names are assigned by your on the device itself under Settings>General>About. The first field is the Name field. Put your unique device name there.
Without knowing what specific device list you are looking at in iTunes, it is impossible to provide any more info.

Jun 15, 2015 9:29 AM in response to gail from maineby hamama,I did go to Account Information and then under "iTunes in the Cloud" clicked on "Manage Devices". I updated the name of some devices and when I go to the "Find my iPhone" app I can see the name change almost immediately. But the devices I see under "Manage Devices" are different.

Jun 15, 2015 9:44 AM in response to hamamaby gail from maine,The devices your see in Manage Devices are devices that are associated with your Apple ID. That means that they are devices that have been used to download past purchases from the iTunes & App Store, or they are devices that have Automatic Downloads turned on in Settings, iTunes Match, or Family Sharing turned on.
You should see a device description, like Mac or iPad or iPhone, and then your actual device or computer name in parentheses next to the description.
You may need to download a past purchase before the change shows up on your Account Info. Not sure, and the support document is not very enlightening:
Manage your associated devices in iTunes - Apple Support
Also, I don't think deleting any of the devices will cause any issues. If it is associated with your Apple ID and a different Apple ID attempts to download a past purchases, etc. it will display an error on the device saying that it is associated with another Apple ID and then will provide the number of days left on the 90 day waiting period.
If you don't recognize the devices showing on that list, then they probably are well over that 90 days.
