Q: Delete iPhoto Library?

Now that I've migrated all of my pictures and videos to Yosemite 10.10.3 "Photos," and it has its own photo library in the "Pictures" folder, may I now delete the former iPhoto library that's also in the "Pictures" folder?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Mid 2009), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3)

You can but you may want to keep it for awhile just to be sure that you are OK with Photos. Also note that while it appears to be using approximately double the storage space (for both Photos and iPhoto) it really isn't as it uses hard links which makes it appear that each is taking up a lot of space when they really aren't. In spite of that, either can be deleted without affecting the other.

Yes - but it is not a good idea - it will save very little space ( Photos saves disk space by sharing images with your iPhoto or Aperture libraries - Apple Support ) and makes it extremely difficult to go back if you want or need to - I would not delete the iPhoto library until you have a month or more of photos under your belt

Hello, it's been a few months since the last post and i'm a bit unclear on what to do.

I've been using Yosemite since public beta and now i'm in El Capitan.

    So far so good.

My question is, since TimeMachine backs up daily, can i delete my old iPhoto library since i'm only using Photos now?

The reason i'm asking is because i only have a 256GB SSD and the iPhoto library has 72GB...

can i safely delete iPhoto Library?

Just as a precaution i saved all my photos and videos on my network attach storage.

    Any feedback would be appreciated.

    Cheers!

    Vlad
