I was also, but all you need to do to create a gmail account is to enter your gmail address and password. The process then completes automagically. The only catch is if you have 2 factor authentication enabled; then you need an application specific password generated in gmail settings on the web interface.

Yeah, I switched to two-factor a while back. Gave me a deeper understanding of the tradeoffs between security and convenience.
