Q: Use a Verizon iPhone on Sprint

Please help - I own a sprint iPhone 4s that does not start up.  My friend gave me his old iPhone 4s but it is on verizon.

Is it possible to "unlock it" to use on Sprint?  I read somewhere that all verizon 4s phones are now unlocked.

What does that mean?  Does that mean I can just remove the sim card and put in my sprint one and have it work?

Please advise!  Thanks

iPhone 4S, iOS 8.3

    Howdy CooperRock,

The article linked below details how to go about verifying (and if necessary, going through the process of) that the iPhone is unlocked and how to get it to work with your desired carrier.

No, you can't use a Verizon 4S phone on Sprint. The SIM slot on a 4S is for GSM networks. The 4S is a 3G phone and Sprint's 3G network uses CDMA.

You cannot use a Sprint iPhone 4S on Verizon, or vice versa. It's because the 4S is a CDMA phone if purchased for Sprint or Verizon, and does not use a SIM at all (except to use it on a GSM network like AT&T or T-Mobile in the US, or other carriers around the world).

While there is no technical reason you can't, both Sprint and Verizon have decided that they will not activate phones not originally sold for their network.
