Q: Contacts sync with Mac

Hi!

I recently have a Mac and I can't sync my contacts with my Mac, and when I use Massage app, and a friend sends me a message I can read it but in the left column I see just his phone number and I have no contact in the tab contacts
Somebody knows the solution?

Thank you for your time

OK. You have a Mac... what is it you're trying to sync your contacts with exactly?

Where are you trying to sync your contacts from? If from a device, use iCloud.

    Hi,

Open the Contacts App and use the App Menu to access the Preferences  then Accounts.

This should list the method (Account) that is being used to sync with other devices.

If none are selected it should show "On My Mac" as being active.

If it shows both active then untick the On My Mac option.

If it does not show any external service such as iCloud or Yahoo or similar then go back to System Preferences and make sure you are logged in to the service you are using (or wish to use).

The Contacts app does not do well if there are more then one Account that is active.

Of course the method/Account should also match the one being used on the iOS device.

You still haven't clarified what you are trying to sync the information on your Mac with. A cloud service? Another device? What? The point of syncing is to give you up to date data in more than one place or device.

All you've really told us so far is that you have a Mac. Presumably, the data is on your Mac. If you want to get your data onto another device or into the cloud, you need to tell us that, and tell us what you're trying to get the data to.

Likewise, if the data is NOT currently on the Mac, you need to tell us where it is.

Yeah sorry about that, in fact my contacts are on my iPhone and I want to transfer in my Mac.
Ralph, I tried and in my iCloud account "On my Mac" is active but I have 3 other accounts for the mail so maybe that's the problem

    Hi,

I use iCloud (System Preferences > iCloud with the Contacts ticked to use that to sync.

Then in Contacts app > Preferences > Accounts I see the iCloud Account as active.

(You may be showing other items that are in System Preferences > Internet accounts that don't have the Contacts box ticked - so they are not trying to sync).

You need to be using one service such as iCloud on the Mac and the device you are trying to sync with.

Once the iPhone and Mac are using the same ID one the same Service then the iPhone names and Numbers will appear on the Mac.

It is actually reading a list that is literally in the Cloud and displaying it on the Mac rather that storing it there.

If you deselect things at some point in the future the default is to not keep them on the Mac and you have to specify that you want to keep them.

This can feel very odd if you list start life on the Mac and was then put in iCloud before it was synced with an iPhone.
