Q: storing my library on an external drive due to macbook air storage limitation

A effective way of storing my iTunes library on an external drive due to my macbook airs limited storage capacity i already have iTunes match but I'm not always accessible to an internet connection.

MacBook Air (11-inch Mid 2013), OS X Yosemite (10.10.3), 1TB external drive

    As long as your iTunes files are all stored by iTunes in the iTunes Library, you should have no issues with using an external drive.

     

    Locate you iTunes library. The default location is on your startup drive > Users > Your user name > Music > iTunes folder. Duplicate the entire iTunes folder to your external drive. After that's done, launch iTunes while holding down the Option key. You will be presented with a request to choose which iTunes library you want to use. Select Choose Library and navigate to the iTunes folder on your external drive.

     

    Thats it! Just make sure you remember to back it up.
