Q: change account will delete iCloud contents

My husband just got an iPhone, thus had to set up his own Apple ID. He is using our primary email address (the one we use jointly). I've had an iPhone for a long time and originally set up my Apple ID using our primary email address. Since he is setting up his account using the joint email, I chose to change my Apple ID using my private gmail account. I've been having problems with things ever since. Now when I go to my Macbook the iCloud account listed is my husbands. I try to sign him out and get the following message- "If I turn off iCloud Drive, all document stored in iCloud will be deleted from this Mac". Not sure what to do?

    Hello ebochsler64,

Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.

It sounds like you changed your Apple ID email address, and need to update your sign-in information on your Mac.

These steps from What to do after you change your Apple ID email address or password can help:

Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click iCloud.

    • If you're signed in with your previous Apple ID:
      1. Click Sign Out. Depending on what iCloud options are turned on, you'll be asked if you want to make copies or delete iCloud data (Contacts, Calendar, Reminders, Bookmarks, Photo Stream) from your Mac. Your data will remain in iCloud and will be updated on your device when you sign in to iCloud again.

      2. Enter your updated Apple ID or password to sign in.

Even though files should not be removed from iCloud, it's always a good idea to have a current backup before changing anything:
