Q: charging issues with unibody macbook 2010
Hello Apple Fanatics,
I have a problem to report. Over the last year or two I have had intermittent charging issues with my mid 2010 white unibody macbook. I will try to explain to the best of my ability what is going on.
LED on L type charger: The LED light on the charger has intermittently gone on and off. When touched or moved slightly, and it also flicks on and/or off. I have reset the SMC and PRAM with no resolution.
The charger is hot when the above happens: I have noticed that the end of the port where the magsafe connects has been really hot both on the L type, and on the computer, as well as the main housing box for the charger. Some times I have to wiggle the charger and re-attach the magsafe to get it to charge. Its very touchy. There are no visible frays or damage noticed on the charger.
I have checked for stuck pins, cleaned them with alcohol, as well as the port (did the same to that): I haven't really noticed anything improving.
I have charged using various outlets: I have tried to use various outlets. Keep in mind, this doesn't happen all the time (the charging issues). I am still having the same problems.
Sometimes when I connect the magsafe, nothing happens: No LED present and computer not charging. But when I re-attach it, it works.
Maybe the charger is just getting old? It is a 5 year old computer. I swapped the battery once and upgraded the RAM. The computer is slowing down over time and I do my best to clean it up and keep it running at a decent speed. My ports get cleaned regularly. I have no idea what the issue is. I personally believe its the charger or the DC port itself. It has never completely stopped working so I have no idea what the problem is. Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Hooch
