And in most ways it's a shame, since computers are designed to relieve humans from drudgery. It seems clear that if you shoot 500 pictures at a soccer game, you might want to annotate all of them the same, at least to start working from, without doing it by hand. I expect Apple to add batch operations in forthcoming releases, but maybe the iCloud synching makes that a difficult proposition.

and you can assign KeyWords to a group of photos which accomplishes much of your soccer game desired
