Q: Really annoying (1) icon on top of the iBooks store that won't go away.

iBooks has a really annoying bug where the purchased tab has a red (1) icon on it. It's really annoying and it's been here for a whole year now. Is there any way to fix this? I'm on an iPhone 5, I've tried syncing my phone to iTunes and my computer and I've tried transferring purchases. Nothing helped.

This is really really annoying and distracting and I would appreciate any help that you guys could give me.

iPhone 5, iOS 8.1, null

This usually indicates there is an update to one of your purchased books. Any indication that could be the case?

I've removed any book I had purchased, and even checked for updates for all of them. There were none. There was a book I refunded earlier on, but i don't see how that could relate to anything.

    Any thoughts?

As @anypats says, this is not a bug, but indicates a book that needs updating.  The book may well not be on your iPhone.  If you have a Mac, then you could open the iBooks app there and update all your books.  If you do not have a Mac, then I don't know how to do this on a computer.

If you don't have a Mac, I would try downloading each book to your iPhone and updating it.  If the refunded book is available to you, then download it as well.

If you do have a Mac, then try the above in iBooks on the Mac.

I tried re-downloading all the books again and there was no option for me to update. Just that annoying (1) sign. I don't have a mac, but then again I shouldn't have to own one to solve this as I've never used a mac with my account.

edit: I also was able to download the refunded book. Nothing came out of it.

I certainly agree.  I'm not saying you have to have a Mac.  I'm only saying I don't know how to update a book on a PC.

Here is how to perform the update process on your iPhone (see "Download book updates on iOS"):

I've tried updating that but there never was an update button. I also tried deleting everything and redownloading things twice. Nothing works. That's why this is so frustrating - I have no idea what's happening.
