Q: iPad photo album bigger than in iPhone

Hello family,

I have been searching for some time, to no apparent avail, in regards to the following issue I'm experiencing.

I use everyday my iPhone 6 Plus and my iPad Air 2. Both are updated to iOS 8.3 and are 64 GB size each.

I have just migrated from iPhoto to Photos in my Mac. So I have removed all photos from both devices and synced again changing in iTunes from iPhoto to Photos and selected just one album (a big one, my son's pics).

So here is the question:

In the iPhone, the album uses 5,05 GB, while in the iPad the very same exact album uses 6,56 GB. All options (videos included, standard definition preferred, etc.) are the same in both devices.

Settings > General > Usage > Photos returns the same values confirming what iTunes shows.

Ideas on where to look? Is this a known issue more people are experiencing? Is not a small difference.

Thanks!

iPad Air 2 Wi-Fi, iOS 8.3

    Howdy mabaeyens,

When syncing photos to a device via iTunes, the photos are optimized for each device. As your iPad Air 2 affords a higher resolution than your iPhone 6 plus, larger versions of the desired photos will be created and synced to that device (resulting in a larger amount of space used for the same number of pictures). The information outlined below highlights this fact in regard to the iPod Photo Cache (where the optimized versions of the selected photos are stored on your computer).

    • The size of the iPod Photo Cache might vary depending on the device being synced. The higher resolution a device is, the larger the iPod Photo Cache will be.
    • If you're syncing with multiple devices, your iPod Cache might contain multiple optimizations of the same images.

    Hi Allen,

It really makes sense, but I didn't found the support article you mention since I was searching for iPad/iPhone.

    Many thanks!
