Q: Upgrading 10.5.8 to 10.6.3

I'm upgrading from 10.5.8 to 10.6.3. I'm worried that I may lose my Microsoft Office 2004 files. Need I?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.5.8)

You won't unless a problem occurs. Back them up first.

Note that if you're actually on a PowerPC(not Intel) Mac, it isn't capable of running 10.6 or above.

Sorry yes I clicked the wrong box

So I'll back up and then do an "unclean" install.

If say they didn't open from the internal hard drive, would I be able to open them up from the external drive with no problems?

It's just I've heard people banging on about Rosetta etc

If they won't open from the internal drive because of a problem with the original documents, yes.

If they won't open from the internal drive because of a problem with the application or its support files, only if the external drive has usable copies of them. In the case of support files, you'd need to either copy them back or restart the computer from the external drive.
