Thank you for visiting Apple Support Communities.
I see that your iMac meets the system requirements for using AirPlay; however, the AirPlay icon is not present in the menu bar. Here are the troubleshooting steps that I specifically recommend for the missing AirPlay icon.
If you don't see an AirPlay icon
in the menu bar:- Make sure that "Show mirroring options in the menu bar when available" is selected in Displays preferences. If you don't see this checkbox, your Mac doesn't meet the system requirements.
- Make sure that the Apple TV is awake. You can wake it by pressing a button on your Apple TV remote. The AirPlay icon appears only when your Mac detects an Apple TV that can be used as an AirPlay display.
If you don't see your Apple TV in the AirPlay menu:
- Make sure that your Mac and Apple TV meet the system requirements, and your Apple TV software is up to date.
- Make sure that your Apple TV is awake. You can wake it by pressing a button on your Apple TV remote.
- Check your firewall settings:
- Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, click Security & Privacy, then click the Firewall tab.
- Click the lock icon, then enter an administrator name and password.
- Click Firewall Options.
- Deselect the option “Block all incoming connections.”
- Select the option “Automatically allow signed software to receive incoming connections.”
If AirPlay disconnects by itself
- AirPlay may suddenly disconnect if your wireless network is too busy to maintain the AirPlay connection, or there is too much wireless interference. Learn how to troubleshoot Wi-Fi connectivity issues.
- The manual of your network router might offer additional suggestions for maintaining a strong and fast connection with your devices.
If your desktop doesn't look good on your HDTV:
- Many HDTVs apply picture-quality enhancements to improve the look of film and video, but those enhancements aren't always best for computer images. Check your HDTV manual for information about how to adjust your HDTV settings for use with a computer. Your HDTV might offer a more suitable viewing mode, such as computer mode or game mode. Also try adjusting settings such as sharpness, detail enhancement, and noise reduction.
- If the menu bar, Dock, or other parts of the desktop are partly off screen when viewed on your HDTV, learn about overscan and underscan and what you can do to correct it.
Use AirPlay to see your Mac screen on an HDTV

Jun 23, 2015 4:33 PM in response to mirkafromburnabyby MichelPM,★HelpfulYour iMac is too old to use Apple's AirPlay mirroring.
You need one of the newer slimline iMac's (2012 or later) to have AirPlay mirroring on a Mac.
For 2011 and older iMacs, check out
AIr Parrot, instead.
http://www.airsquirrels.com/airparrot/specs/
Your Mac needs to be running OS X 10.7.5 Lion or better in install and run AirParrot.
Good Luck!

Jun 23, 2015 7:03 PM in response to mirkafromburnabyby mirkafromburnaby,★HelpfulI tried air parrot but doesn't work. and my iMac is 10.7.5 version. I tried free trial for 7 days air parrot but can not connect. what will be happen if bay this do you think that will work?

Jun 23, 2015 10:31 PM in response to mirkafromburnabyby MichelPM,if the trial version of AirParrot didn't work, then it didn't work on your Mac.
Buying/purchasing this will not change that fact.
MIke Sombrio and. Jason 269 are correct that Apple AirPlay should be able to work on your iMac.
DId you follow Jason 's steps to try to get it to,work?
And, also, just to make sure that you do, indeed own a 2011 iMac,
To find out info about your system,
Click on the Apple symbol in the upper left of the OS X main menu bar. A drop down menu appears.
Click About this Mac. A smaller popup window appears. This gives you basic info like what version of OS X your iMac is running, the speed of your iMac's CPU and how much RAM is installed.
Click on the button that says More Info.
A larger window appears giving you a complete overview of your iMac's hardware specs.
Highlight all of this info and copy/paste all of this into another reply to this post, editing out your iMac's serial number before actually posting the reply.
Thanks.
