Like Felito, my locked iPad was never synced to iTunes, so Texas Mac Man's instructions did not work. Apple gives the following instructions to completely restore your iPad (which will erase all contents):

    • Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
    • Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to shut down.
    • While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
    • Continue holding the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes screen.
    • iTunes will alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then restore the device.

Note: I have a Windows computer with iTunes and it worked.

I am on a two-week backpacking trip across Scotland.  I am writing a blog, which I can only post to when I reach towns with Wifi.  Today when I took my iPad mini (three weeks old) out of my pack and turned it on it said "iPad disabled [,] connect to iTunes."  I do not have a desktop or laptop.  I have only an iPhone 5s.  I don't remember failing to sign into the iPad, but I believe it was on (mistakenly) when I put it away, so the motion in the pack, sitting on the pack, etc., may have simulated multiple signon attempts.  I have signed into iTunes on my phone and all it offers is stuff to buy.  I am in desperate need to use my iPad mini.  Is there any way I can undisable it?  All the suggestions I've found on this forum require that it be connected to a "computer", which I don't have (at least not a conventional one) with me.  I really need help.  And thanks.

The Texas Mac Man hack does not work if "Find my iPad" is turned on. iTunes won't restore the device if this is the case, you need to turn "Find my iPad" on the device off first. Yeah, right.

The only thing you can do when "Find my iPad" is turned on is completely recover it.

I plugged it into the computer, synced it. And it was no longer locked.

This didn't work for me. I'm still getting the message in iTunes to saying to do something on the iPad. Is there any other way around this? I'm trying unlock this iPad for my boss without losing data.

If it's disabled then you'll need to reset the iPad back to factory defaults by connecting it to a computer's iTunes : Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support

I assume that your boss has been taking regular backups, in which case he/she shouldn't lose too much content when it's restored to their last one
