iTunesThe activation screen should tell you the first letter of the account and the email provider's name. Do you know if you had download anything from the store with the account : Recovering a forgotten iTunes Store account name - Apple Support ? Or you could try : How to find your Apple ID - Apple Support
If neither of those help you find it then you could try going to Apple Store if you have one nearby, or contacting iTunes Support online (http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact/), and see if they can remove the iPad from the account - both are likely to want to see proof of ownership (e.g. original receipt with the iPad's serial number on it) before they might help.
