If the remote is from your Apple Tv, chances are it is paired with that apple Tv.
To unpair the remote:
On your apple Tv go to Settings->General->Remotes
click "Unpair Apple Remote"
That should be all it takes,

Jun 26, 2015 7:45 AM in response to Jalaparkby Mitch Aunger,But for the record (i know this is an old thread), you can use the REMOTE app on your iPhone (if you have one) to control iTunes as an option. You can also use the iPhone to control Keynote as well (tho that's done in keynote).
