Q: My apple tv failed an update started flashing the light and now will not even connect to my iTunes. This thing is garbage unless I can figure out how to restore it. Where do I go from here?

My apple tv failed an update and now there is a flashing light and the device doesn't work. There is no phone support for this product without paying money so here I am. Everything I researched so far tells me I am supposed to plug it into my iTunes to restore the product. This sounds great but no matter how many ways I've tried, my iTunes cannot seem to recognize that my apple tv is plugged into the computer. Please help me apple. I want my apple tv back.

Have a look at Restore your Apple TV (2nd and 3rd generation) - Apple Support
specifically Restore your Apple TV in iTunes. You will need a USB to micro USB cable.

I, too, have attempted to connect my Apple TV to my iMac and iTunes, to no avail. The computer will not recognize the device, so restoring from iTunes is useless as well. The device only shows the Apple logo when connected to a television, so there's no way to reset it from the AppleTV menu either. Paying $29 for support on a $100 device is a bit ridiculous - especially when triggered by a failed Apple update! Can Apple please address this issue directly and let those of us with hockey pucks know how we can fix our devices, please?
