Q: Mac sees HP Officejet 6500 printer as off-line (wireless home network). Cannot get Mac to see the printer. New Verizon customer. ipad and iPhone on same network-work fine.
Mac does not see my HP officiate 6500 printer as on-line (wireless home network). It has worked fine in the past. iPad and iPhone see printer and I can print from them with no problem. I am a new Verizon customer and am using their router. Is there a setting on the Mac I am missing? Any suggestions welcome. Thank you
iMac, OS X Yosemite (10.10.2)

It seems that I am not able to get printer drivers directly from HP but have to rely on updates via Apple. Is that correct?
You are correct. Following the link leads to the explanation that you have to get the driver automatically from Apple's Update system.
Linc's idea above was to get the router to recognize and give your a printer a new IP address. I suspect it may have an IP address from the subnet of the previous router. You can confirm that by printing a configuration page from the printer, and comparing the 1st three parts of the IP with that on your Mac. (the first three parts should be the same, like 192.168.1.x)
Power cycling the printer usually forces it to get a correct IP address - unless the router is at fault and then cycling the router usually fixes that.
