Q: Health app data missing after upgrading to iOS 8.3 from the phone

Hi Guys,

I recently upgraded to iOS 8.3 from my phone and now when i wanted to go and look for some of my health data in the health app all of it is gone.  no history except for activity after the upgrade to iOS 8.3.. now  is there any way to restore the old data, and why is apple not warning you that you will loose all data if you upgrade via the phone itself..

Kind Regards,

Dex

    This happened to me using iTunes to backup my data and restore (not update) to 8.3. All my other data and settings made it across but my health data is gone. It's as if it just reset with the update.

    You think that is bad? I did a restore on my iPhone today to 8.4 because 8.2/8.3 I was still having crash issues. So I did a restore and restored from backup that I did right before I started the restore. Got done and all my Health app data and my Apple watch Activity and Achievements i got are gone! Everything for the last 4 months of Health data and last 4 weeks of exercise data is gone as if I just got a new phone and watch

    In order for the Health Data to be backed up, the iTunes backup must be flagged as an encrypted backup. An iCloud backup will automatically be encrypted. If your iTunes backup is not encrypted, you've lost all of your Health Data trying to restore from that backup.

    Use Health on your iPhone or iPod touch with iOS 8 - Apple Support

    Scroll down about 3/4 of the way on the linked page.

    You need to use encrypted backup for Health & Keychain data;

    • Health and Keychain data
      To back up Health and Keychain data, you'll need to use Encrypted Backup in iTunes.

    Thanks, they need to add that info to the user guide for the Apple Watch so people know to turn it on/check that option. I read the Apple Watch user guide via iBooks before getting my watch and even today to make sure I wasn't doing something wrong and didn't see anything mentioned about that needing to be done to save your Activity and Achievements app. Can't do anything about now I guess, just makes me mad though. That's 4 weeks of Apple Watch data and 4 months of Health data and me dropping 65+ lbs so far down the drain because of something small like that.

    Normal backup is stored in a simple SQLLite database where the data can be extracted.

    Health & Keychain data need encrypted backup, for security reason as you can imagine.
