Q: Cannot connect to email accounts at Google after update to 10.10.4

I I use several email accounts, at iCloud and at Google. After the upgrade, mail.app cannot connect to the Google ones anymore.

iCloud still works fine.

Some, not all, of the Google accounts have 2-step verification enabled. They are linked through the old style gmail setup with application specific passwords.

The Google accounts all report in the connection doctor that the username/password combo is wrong. This is obviously not the case, as they worked fine just before the upgrade and i can also log on to them just fine through the web. I can also access the accounts just fine through mail.app on OSX.

I feel your pain - I've just lost a couple of hours over this, too!

I have 3 x Google App accounts, all with 2 step enabled. After upgrading to 10.10.4 all accounts were showing as offline with warning triangles.

Mail's connection doctor showed that SMTP connected and authenticated OK (and in fact Contacts & iCal appts worked fine) but IMAP wouldn't authenticate.

Looking at the IMAP logs there weren't any errors, mail.app just seemed to LOGOUT whilst still setting up the IMAP connection (didn't even attempt to auth)

My first attempt at removing all the accounts and readding them didn't go so well - it was horribly slow and the first time I tried deleting some emails everything locked up and all accounts went offline again.

This time I removed all the accounts, rebooted the Mac, and slowly added the accounts back on one at a time, each time opening Mail, allowing a sync, and quitting again before moving on to the next...

So far things seem to be working, though it has only been 30 mins or so - too early to tell if that has comprehensively fixed it.

Purely my speculation, but comparing the before and after IMAP logs shows version differences etc it is possible Google was rejecting cached authentication as it would consider 10.10.4 a new device...?

Hope you get it sorted too!

    Regards,

    Dan

Having this problem as well and its been frustrating to say the least.  One of my gmail accounts does not have the two step authentication and that works fine.  The one that is my main account does have the authentication and won't connect.  I have revoked access and created a new password but no luck with imap...calendar and contacts work great still.

Solved the problem by going to mail preferences > accounts  then under an account > advanced checking the checkbox for "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".

Ah yes, I remember now we had to uncheck that option previously to make gmail accounts work, it sounds like the tables have turned again!

I'm glad it was a simple fix in the end, much better than my "scorched earth" solution, haha

Mine was already checked.  When I uncheck it it takes the account totally offline.  When I check it again I get nothing.  Grrrrrrr
