Q: My iMac has FaceTime v 3.0 but app store offers 1.0.5

Facetime on my computer is Version 3.0 (1638)  and on the Mac App store its v1.0.5

When I try to update FaceTime it says "FaceTime can’t be installed on “Macintosh HD” because the version of OS X is too new.". when I try to delete the installed version it says its required by OSX . . not sure what else I can try . . Sometimes it says "If you want to replace it with this version, move the existing app to the trash” but the computer says no when I try! "“FaceTime” can’t be modified or deleted because it’s required by OS X."

After two months of various attempts to sort out an issue with FaceTime which cannot  connect I still cannot get it to connect , but it does on my laptop. Any suggestions? I am running the latest v of OSX

The FaceTime in the App Store is only for OS X 10.6. You already have the latest version. Please describe the problem in more detail.

For two months I have made various attempts to sort out an issue with FaceTime. When I enter my Apple account id and password it just tries to connect and then eventually tells me to check my network connection. Facetime is switched on in the drop-down menu etc. I still cannot get it to connect, but it does on my Macbook pro laptop. I

I assumed I need to update Facetime but I think this can only be done by reinstalling OSX but I tried that and it does not help. My OSX is full up to date

Thanks. I have been through that list again and none apply. It does work on my laptop but that is 10.6 OSX and therefore 1.0.5 Facetime, otherwise the internet connection, Apple id etc are the same. I can (and do) use the laptop now, but it buggs me that I have an issue which I dont seem to be able to sort!

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:

☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)

☞ In the Finder, select Go Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.

☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select

    SYSTEM LOG QUERIES All Messages

from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select

    View Show Log List

from the menu bar at the top of the screen.

Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try the action that you're having trouble with again. Select any messages that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.

Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.

☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.

The machine has an invalid serial number. Take it to an Apple Store or other authorized service center to have the problem corrected.

Many thanks, however our nearest Apple store is a day trip so I will have to plan it in a month or two. Its funny, but Facetime did work on this computer up to two months ago so I assume it cannot be changed remotly? Thanks for helping sort it out .

I have exactly the same problem as described in the first post. I have a MacBook Pro 15' (early 2011); now with OS X Yosemite installed. For many months, every time I open the Mac App Store, I see a FaceTime update to version 1.0.5, but I have version 3.0 (fully working). Whenever I accept to "update" the program, the Mac App Store says that (logically) FaceTime cannot be installed because OS X version is more recent. I have checked the serial number of my machine and everything seems to be OK, but I cannot get rid of this "fake update" and I'm completely lost. I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

Brand new mac... Serial number is fine. Perhaps it's because I have a local copy of FaceTime on my network drive?
