Q: Iphone 5 keeps searching network problem....

My iphone 5 today suddenly started started searching network,

I took out the SIM card , it still kept searching for network instead of saying no sim or no service.

I reset network settings, then all settings, turned phone on off several times, put back sim in, hard reset it etc.

I haven't restored it from itunes that I will do next but I am wondering if any one had simlar problem.

Taking SIM card out should changed it to no sim or no service but it doesn't do that so that is weird. It doesn't matter which location because I was in my car when it started searching and I came back home still the same.

Another thing is it doesn't give me an option to select carrier manually as that option has disappeared from the settings.

iPhone 5c, iOS 7.0.4

Make sure all notice updates have been downloaded for your iPhone.

This worked for me. Good luck

Hey Guys i had the same problem and fixed it quite easily.

First thing you want to check is the date in settings. For some reason it has changed back to 1970.

    1) Manually change this back to the correct date and year. Settings- General- Date & Time.

    2) It will be set to 'Set automatically' Swipe it left so it allows you to manually select the correct date.

    3) Once the correct date is selected swipe 'Set Automatically' right.

    4) Reset phone in settings. Settings- General- Reset.

    5) Once you phone is back on chuck in the pin number and its good as gold.

    Hope this helps!

    Hi OktayCakir,

My problem has been fixed after following step by step that you suggested, just once restored and starting my iPhone 5 from the beginning but suing ios 8.2 already.

    Thanks a lot.

    Cheers,

    Yusti

BIG Thank you for that. My phone is now working. Apparently it had been down for a couple of days and I did not know it. (I don't talk a lot on my phone)

    Hi,

I face this problem today with my Iphone 5, and that happened when my iPhone frozen and not responded, so I open it and removed the cable of the battery from the motherboard. After many attempts, I finds that the problem of signal searching was because changing the date and time after removing the cable of the battery ( it maybe because of losing battery charged for other users ).

Then, resetting the Date and Time may solve this issue.

    Hope this help

After trying everything, what worked for me was:

    1. Go to 'Settings'

    2. Go to 'Phone'

    3. Go to 'SIM PIN'

    4. If it is on, switch it off.

    5. Solved.

You won't have a pincode on your sim card after this but for me making phone work was a greater success.

I have found this on suggestions of Apple itself, I hope it will work for you too

    Hi guys,

I bought Iphone 5 last year, as at  30th June 2015 my iphone completing 1 year 3 months. I encountered same issue as mentioned above. 3 days my phone was in " searching......" mode. Which means, no incoming calls / out going calls and no data connection. My phone only can use when there is Wifi connection available. I have done all the basic troubleshoot. Nothing was helpful. 2nd round, i was so much ****** out with iphone services. Now brought it to Iphone service center. The guy who attended me was Malay guy (3rd floor, KLCC). He said, i have upgraded to 8.3 ISO using wifi instead of upgrade via ITune. I was like what the F***. Due to these cause, phone software crashed. Therefore, you need reformart the phone and all network will be back in action, ''which doesn't make sense for me" anyway, i agreed since there is no choice out there.

After waiting 4 hours, i got back my phone. with the status " Searching........" I was like ****. Immediately the guy told me this is hardware issue which Apple does not repair phone instead software. Hence, you got to return phone and on-top-it you required to pay amount of RM1400 for new piece (iphone 5) This is the ONLY solution offered by iphone. I felt so stupid of iphone with stupid solution. ****..... ****..... ****....

With a single hope, brought it LowYat to repair. Upon many repair like change antena, reformat and bla...bla...bla...nothing seems like working.

At the end, i bought new HTC phone and no longer with unreliable iphone service anymore..............................

I tried all of the suggestions provided in these replies, however none of them were effective. I talked to my carrier (Verizon) and they informed me that my iPhone 5 has a 1 year manufacturer warranty and that I should take it to an Apple store. I did so and they gave me a new phone. ... Problem solved.

just came from Apple, most likely your phone is bent and the SIM card reader is broken. Apple refuses to help because of this and you're basically screwed unless you have Apple care and want to spend $100 for a new fragile bendable phone. Thanks Apple.
