Q: Support Code:300 The printer does not respond

In the last 2 weeks I'm suddenly getting a frequent error message on my MacBook Pro when I try to print to my Canon MX860 printer which I connect to over my WiFi network.  This combination has worked flawlessly for several years, but now it suddenly keeps coming up with this "Support Code: 300" error.

I have deleted the printer several times and reinstalled.  It will work for 12 hours or less and then I start getting the Support Code: 300 error again.

My notebook PC, sitting right beside my MacBook Pro, continues to print to this same printer with no issue.

Any suggestions?

I downloaded McAfee LiveSafe internet security and I believe that somehow mucked up my Canon 6120 printer connection.

I followed TBannor's advice and now my printer works!

    Hopefully no more problem.

MP 990 and latest OS X. Got 300 this morning and have been tearing my hair out until I found this thread. Deleted and reinstalled and it all works. Thanks a bundle.

I just encountered the same problem with my Canon Pro 100. for no apparent reason I could not get anything to print or contact the printer through its IP address.  Per suggestions here, I deleted the driver and tried to re-install.  Then I could not get the printer past my router as the setup repeatedly rejected my network password.  Canon tech support finally gave me the name of an authorized repair facility and we assumed that the network card had failed.

    Then.....

I went into my router and deleted the fixed IP address I had reserved for the printer and the next thing I saw was the software asking me if I wanted to keep the existing printer configuration with an automatic IP .  Everything works fine, now.  I don't care if my MAC wants to handle the IP as long as it keeps working.

So...one thing to check is how your printer IP is being handled by your router.  From my experience I can say that if there is a conflict things may still work for awhile and seem OK before they get weird.

Did as TBannor suggested.  I can print from the PC so I know they are communicating but I still can't scan.  The only option I have is to local (USB) option and that does not work.  Seems to be scanning but document never comes up on the PC (error code 300).  I don't know how to get it to scan and connect to PC via wifi.  Any help would be appreciated.  Also, same issue.  Worked fine until today.

I am using a Canon MX920 hooked up via WiFi and had the same issue for the first time this morning---Support Code 300 and it wouldn't print.  All I did was shut the printer off, unplug it from the back, plugged it back in, turned it on and it printed.  For PC users contact Canon support (have your printer serial number handy) and they will walk you through setting it up on WiFi---they helped me. 1-800-652-2666 M-F

Hi - Generally Support code 300 from  Canon is a failed print head. This happened to me last year, I bought one directly from Canon at a surprising reasonable price and it fixed the problem.

There are many helpful suggestions, but what worked for me, finally, was changing my firewall settings.

The printer had been installed before, but in the process of upgrading to Yosemite I turned on the firewall on with "Block all incoming connections" selected. So when I tried to print I would get the error. After deleting the printer, it would never showed up in the add window. After de-selecting "Block all incoming connections" in the firewall the printer and scanner would connect and work correctly.

Getting the same issue with Cannon MP560.

Had 4 multiple page docs to print, printed the first two and this message pops up. Have full ink, plenty of paper, tried USB direct, no joy.

Getting REALLY TIRED of "updates" from Apple, Java, Adobe, Windows, and everybody else that take us back to computer dark ages!

I have had luck deleting the printer, restarting my router, and then adding it again.

I have to do this every few weeks which is very annoying.

Support code 300 is just a generic "computer can't talk to printer over wifi" code.  This happened to me and how I fixed it was by turning off (i.e. unplug) my Time Capsule and then rebooting.  This resets the network settings and now everything is fine.

Had this problem after 2 months of purchase couldn't  work it out reset wifi disconnected printer then removed from computer.

The problem is I am with BT which allows you to use hot spots, your own router providing them for some reason my computer  was trying to use this and the printer didn't recognise it.

Reset to my own net work every thing OK
