Q: can i delete my pics from my phone if they are backed up on the cloud

I bought more space on the cloud because that's the only way i know how to backup my iphone 5c. Can i delete my photos from my phone after backing them up to the cloud?

My Photo Stream

iCloud Photo Library FAQ - Apple Support

If you are using iCloud Photo library you can still save the photos
Archive or make copies of your iCloud data - Apple Support
