Re: Repairing Boot Camp after creating new partition                                                 in response to Loner T

Loner T,

I did this fix:

sudo fdisk -e /dev/disk0

p

setpid 4

07

flag 4

p

write

y

When I started Windows all I had was a black screen with a blinking underscore "_"

I went back to my MAC and try it again... but instead of "setpid 4" and "flag 4" I did "setpid 1" and "flag 1"

Now when I boot into Windows/BootCamp  is saying "Missing Operating System" and OS X is not bootable.

Also Macintosh HD is gone from Disk Utility when I go into recovery mode and check Disk Utility...

I there any REMEDY for this? I have a lot of data that I need to recover...

ANY help is really appreciated!!!!!!!!

Mac Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10.1)

If you can test Bootcamp as is and it boots and works, unless you really need to space, continue to use Windows. Do not change the partitions via Disk Utility, it will cause you problems again. If you do not need it, till you are ready to reinstall Windows, leave it as is.

Can you post a new discussion and the output of the following Terminal commands?

    diskutil list

    diskutil cs list

sudo gpt -vv -r show /dev/disk0

    sudo fdisk /dev/disk0

The "sudo" commands will prompt for your password, and it will not be echoed back. You may also see a warning about improper use of "sudo" and potential data loss due to "abuse" of the command.

    1. Your GPT output seems to indicate that the GPT is corrupt. Can you install GPT Fdisk (http://sourceforge.net/projects/gptfdisk/) and post the output of

    sudo gdisk /dev/disk0

    p

    q

    2. Your disk0 shows a 500Gb disk, but only 350Gb is showing up in diskutil list. We should fix the GPT CRC errors first.

    3. Do you have any third-party NTFS software?

In Disk Utility click on the disk0s4 and post a screen shot similar to the following.

Your partition verification table looks like

    SuperDudePlayer-NTFS-Table.png

You have about 138Gb sitting between you current NTFS and Recovery HD, which most likely contains a lost NTFS header.

Are you able to post the output of

sudo gpt -vv r- show /dev/disk0
