Q: Playlists and music are not syncing (can't add any music to my iPhone now)

I've been having a lot of trouble with Apple Music! I have a pretty large iTunes library (25k) and have been using iTunes Match. At first things seemed okay on my iPhone 6. I added a couple of albums and it was good.

Then I got iTunes 12.2 and the music I added from Apple Music showed up greyed out. Nothing I did seemed to make those songs want to become available. I saw someone posted to delete the songs from the iPhone library and then add them using your Mac and then it would show up on both. No dice. I toggled Music on and off and had it re-download my music library to my iPhone. I still can't see the albums I added on my Mac (and which are clearly in my Mac library).

Now I can't add anything to my iPhone library. When I browse for an album not on my iPhone and click the "Add to My Music" button, it says okay, does the check mark thing, and then a few seconds later the icon switches back from a checkmark to a plus sign.

Basically I can't add music to my iPhone at all because I can't sync it to my computer (since now it syncs only through Apple Music), it isn't syncing changes from my Mac to my iPhone, and I can't add anything from Apple Music to my iPhone. Help!

    This worked for me.

(let me be specific about the problem I have been having: I lost my playlists on the iPhone when going to Music and iCloud, although they were still in iTunes on the Mac. I'm using latest versions of both, that is iTunes = 12.2 and iPhone6 = iOS 8.4 with new Music app)

I renamed my old playlists in my iTunes on the Mac. They appeared fairly instantly on my iPhone Music.

Even better. I created a new playlist on the Mac iTunes and simply drag and drop the songs from my previous playlist (i.e., the playlist that does not show-up on my iPhone). This also worked. It also created what appears to be a new playlist format in iTunes, so this was my preferred method.

Both iTunes (Mac) and Music (iPhone) now have the same playlists.

Note: I did not have a lot of playlists to begin with, and I never lost my playlists on the Mac/iTunes.

So simple, so helpful, thanks. Why do Apple change these things when they update?

So I don't know if this issue is still occurring, but I've spent the last two hours trying to resolve it for myself.  Deleting all music, restoring from back up, on and on.   So after googling and googling, I couldn't figure out what else to do.  As others had stated it seemed like they phone thought the music was there since it was taking up space, but I couldn't access it.

Anyway, to get to the point, I attempted to sync via cable several times and always nothing.  So as I was staring at iTunes, I noticed some of my songs were missing "info" or poorly labeled, so I started cleaning them up while I tried to think of what else to do.  Then I noticed when I tweaked the "info", it was added to my phone on the next sync. So I started messing with the "info" of the songs in iTunes.  I highlighted all my music, and tried to find something I could manipulate on all of them, but still have them sorted.  Only thing I could see to do was the little heart, to say whether I "loved" a song or not.  So I did it for all of them, synced, and nothing.  So I thought "well that didn't work, now what?"  I thought, maybe if I do one album, and tweak the genre or something.  It would be lengthy, but I could do it in chunks.  So I highlighted one album, and changed the genre, and went to sync.  And guess what happened...all the music went on to my phone.

I don't know if it was a fluke, or a combination of things, but my music is back on my phone.  Good luck, and if it works for anyone else, please let me know.

Is anyone else having the issue of all music purchased on iTunes appearing in the Music app, even though "Show iTunes purchases" is turned off?

    This worked for me,

Turn on "iCloud music liberary" in itunes 12.2 preferences/general .. ( default is off.. but on on ios.. This may be one sourse if the problem )

Wait for iCloud library sync to complete.

And then the songs in yout itunes will be in your iphone, just make sure to uncheck the "Show only offline" option when in my music, then click make available offline for any album you added.

This did NOT delete any offline albums i acquires through Apple Music.

I figured out the issue. In the summary section scroll down to options. Manually manage music is probably unchecked. Make sure you check that. then go to the music tab (under the phone icon) and you should see where you can select from there. If you already had playlists on your phone they should automatically populate as soon as you check the Manually Manage Music option. Hope it works for you it just had me pulling my hair out.

Hi! Need help here. Apple Music is in the brink of messing up my library of 40K+ of songs.

Over the weekend, on my iPhone 6+, i updated to Apple Music. Chose the Merge option since replace sounds too absolute. Apple Music integrated wonderfully with my existing songs and playlists.

When i got home Sunday, I tried to add songs and revise my playlists on my iMac. Now i do not have internet connection except on my mobile thus my iTunes on my iMac is not up to date. iTunes didn't allow me to add songs to my device with the prompt, "cannot add because this device it using iTunes Match". I did not subscribe to match but i understand that it came with Apple Music. With that i decided i didn't need Apple Music nor iCloud Music Library. I turned them off on my device. My whole previous library on my device got deleted.

Now I thought it must be an upgrade issue. I decided to back up some songs and playlists on an external hard disk which i plan to load on my phone using my Macbook Pro. I went to work using my Macbook Pro. At work i have pretty decent internet connection. On my Macbook Pro, i urged my iTunes to the latest available. Still I can't load my playlists on my iPhone using the latest version of iTunes. Upon loading my playlists, no songs were included therein. How do fix this problem?

You have to go to your iPhone, settings, music and turn off iCloud music library, then connect your phone to iTunes in the summary tab check "manually manage music and videos" and then you should be able to sync like you used to with previous version.

Enabling iCloud music library seems to change my album artwork and change some songs, for example I have a live version of a song but when using iCloud music library this version becomes the studio version, I guess because it gets the song from apple version and is related to DRM.

Between steps 4 & 5 you need to go to edit>select all. This will highlight the entire playlist then follow the rest of the instructions

I was not able to add any files to my device through Itunes. This is how it worked for me on the same problem.

I turned off "iCloud Music Library" from the "Music" tab in "settings". Though it gave me msg that all songs added to my music will be deleted, i still turned it off.

Then i added songs to iTunes library. I could sync my phone & got added songs on my iPhone 6+.

Then i turned back my iCloud Music Library on and had the songs which i had added to "my music".
