Jul 4, 2015 10:37 AM in response to jay218by léonie,The technical specifications for the watches are at the bottom of the the Product pages,
For example:
**Apple Watch is splash and water resistant but not waterproof. You can, for example, wear and use Apple Watch during exercise, in the rain, and while washing your hands, but submerging Apple Watch is not recommended. Apple Watch has a water resistance rating of IPX7 under IEC standard 60529. The leather bands are not water resistant.
Does your watch have a leather band? That is not water resistant.
So if you submerge your wrists during swimming you may damage the watch.

Jul 5, 2015 8:20 PM in response to Meg St._Clairby 0itouch_man0,While Apple does not back it, there have been independent test that show the watch being submerged to 4-6 feet with no issues. But this is not recommended!

Tested on how many watches, and how long have the watches been submerged? If it were safe, Apple would recommend it.

A few watches may even stop after walking in the rain. Apple will always be responsible if a product fails, when operated within the technical specifications in the small print: Wearing Apple Watch - Apple Support
