Jul 6, 2015 2:12 AM in response to turingtest2by LauraB-ville,No progress with either step, tt2. I attached the iPod to the USB cable, did the 12-sec reset, and opened iTunes. I got 4 pop-up messages in iTunes (something like "connecting to iPod" "iPod needs to be restored" "downloading software" "preparing iPod for restore"). The PC blipped as if the iPod had been disconnected or had turned itself off, then blipped about 10 seconds later ... and iTunes was "not responding" (although Task Manager showed that it was using 22% of CPU for about another 2 minutes). When the CPU usage had zeroed out I shut iTunes down, but like before I had no WiFi until I manually unplugged the iPod.
The iPod did appear in Windows Explorer but like before a right-click would not open Properties -- or Format -- unless and until I disconnected the iPod (without first ejecting, as that again would do nothing). So I haven't been able to attempt this ultimate step.
Any other ideas?

Jul 6, 2015 2:21 AM in response to LauraB-villeby turingtest2,Put the device in disk mode - Putting iPod into Disk Mode - Apple Support - then see if you can connect and format it. I'm assuming there is no data on it that you need to recover first.

Jul 6, 2015 4:50 PM in response to turingtest2by LauraB-ville,No joy, tt2. It seems that Windows Explorer never quite finishes reading Removable Disk E:. The green stripe at the top never clears. The right-click menu opens but Format does not.
I will be in a town with an Apple Service Center in 2-3 weeks. I guess my last hope is that they can work some magic.
In the mean time I'll either whistle or enjoy the silence.
Thanks for your help,
Laura

Jul 10, 2015 9:13 AM in response to dfenton57by ColtonFranco,Ok so I had this problem on my iPhone 5S, where all my music files were gone. However, I got them back by just signing into my iTunes account in the "My Music" section. You may also have to sync your computer to your phone again. Hope this helps.

Jul 11, 2015 12:03 PM in response to MichaelFromOzby bradnmary,I recently lost all my music too. Over 3,000 songs. I was able to retrieve my library, by reverting to a version just before the new update. Thank God I retrieved all my music. The problem I am having is burning playlists. The new format will let you build a playlist, but there is no place to select which songs you want to burn. So, I found a few old playlists that still pop up in the old style format, in which I added songs to,then was able to check which ones I wanted. This works somewhat. Apple admitted they have bugs, but don't have an answer yet. Still waiting for a red flag engineer to call me.

Jul 11, 2015 12:12 PM in response to bradnmaryby Sonnybet,When you make a new playlist the default is "Playlist" view. On the top right side of the window you see the word "Playlist" with a down arrow. Click on the down arrow and choose "Songs". This actually will put in you list view. From there you can check or uncheck songs. Then right click playlist title and choose "Burn To Disc".
When I upgraded all my old playlists were changed to what is now "Playlist" view with the little thumbnails next to each song. I have to manually change each one as I select that playlist.

Jul 13, 2015 9:35 AM in response to dfenton57by AlysonCanada,I think I'm having the same problem as others, but I'm not sure.
I upgraded to the new iTunes this morning, and realized that all my music appeared to be uploading to the iCloud. Shut that down as quickly as possible because I'm not interested in having everything on the Cloud. I have always stored my music on an external hard drive and iTunes has linked to the files there. When I turned iCloud off, all but a few of my songs which had not yet been uploaded disappeared. So, I reverted to a previous iTunes library. All my songs are there in iTunes but playlists are gone, unfortunately. But all the songs (except those few that hadn't been uploaded to iCloud yet) have exclamation points beside them. So I went directly to my external hard drive to find them and.... EVERYTHING IS GONE FROM MY HARD DRIVE!!!! Except those songs that weren't yet uploaded to iCloud when I turned iCloud off. Is it actually possible that iTunes removed files from my hard drive when uploading them to iCloud?! If so, THAT IS INSANE! How could they build in that feature? I've lost THOUSANDS of files! Any idea how to get them back?! If this is a permanent problem, this is the last apple product I will be buying. Not that they care about one consumer, but I have noticed a trend toward more and more Samsung products and I will be joining those users....
In the meantime, anyone have any idea if this is what has happened and how to fix it? Thank you a million times over.

Jul 13, 2015 9:53 AM in response to AlysonCanadaby AlysonCanada,Just to add to this, I've figured out how to download everything I've lost from iCloud onto my computer, but to add insult to injury, all of the metadata and cover art, so painstaking gathered and organized for the thousands of files, is gone. Any thoughts?

Jul 13, 2015 10:52 AM in response to Sonnybetby bradnmary,Thanks, it is what I was looking for. Still having problem with burning playlists though. It looks as if the whole list was burned, but can only playback the first 7-10 songs !! Hopefully Apple can figure out a solution.

Jul 13, 2015 11:08 AM in response to dfenton57by Louie21,Just an idea--look at my reply to cal94 yesterday concerning the return to my original iTunes library and onscreen display. Worked for me, and a lot of others.

Jul 30, 2015 7:49 PM in response to AlysonCanadaby fixerw,Update currupted a library of 16000 song and 120 movies. 1 month with Apple support , up to "engineer" level input with no resolution. More irksome, they promise to call at the next update and have never done so. I call them every time only to be told that they have "just gotten some new info and are working on it". Reminds me of my old experience with comcast. I expect the out come will be the same. I am now a DirecTV customer.
ASpple seems to be at a loss or is not interested in helping people with mature libraries who want to keep them native to there local harddrives
