Q: iTunes 12.2.0 Extremely Slow When Editing Any mp3 Tags

Is anyone else getting the spinning beach ball for a long time when trying to save any edited "Get Info" changes? When I look at Activity Monitor iTunes throttles CPU to 100%+, then changes to "iTunes (Not Responding) for a bit before it comes back with the saved changes. Also why do I have some Artists out of alpha order in the sidebar on the left side?

MacBook Pro, OS X Yosemite (10.10)

Did you activate the iCloud Music feature? I wonder if it is extra slow because it now has to check everything with your iCloud library version.

That helped. Thanks a lot. I was ready to find an iTunes alternative. I'm still not sure why some of the artist are out of order, but that will probably sort itself out with an update.

Gamboe, I wish Apple would let me edit that post because it didn't work for me either. "Something" worked briefly, but it was short lived and I am still experiencing the same issue as before and what you are having. I thought the last version of iTunes was pretty nice, but if Apple doesn't come out with a fix to this issue soon I will need to find another program. I keep force quitting iTunes and sending them the report. If everybody does that maybe they will get the message something needs to be fixed. I also sent them feedback to let them know there is an issue. Apple did a really poor job testing this version out in order to quickly launch their streaming service.

I too am having extremely slow functionality in anything I do in iTunes 12.2.0… whether it is simply starting a song to play, editing any tags or song information, adding album art, creating playlists, etc.  Anything really.  How exactly do you turn off iCloud Music?  Where do you find that to turn off?  I imagine that it is a software issue that Apple will hopefully correct on the next update.  Thank you  (also, the SEARCH feature in iTunes is now messed up too.  Try searching an artist name along with a song title.  It does not reduce down to that song anymore.  The SEARCH lost the ability to find information that is sorted in different topic column like title, artist, album, etc. at the same time. This *****.)

I too am finding it very frustrating trying to edit information and it taking forever since the last update. Need a fix for this quickly. Where is this iCloud music feature please? I can't find it. I don't remember activating anything.

I use an older computer with a large library.  Sometimes I will do some major tag editing on 50 files at once.  If I then close the window and try to edit a single file iTunes is tied up trying to recalculate all my smart playlists just in case anything I did affected them. The situation with the new iTunes I think is if you have subscribed to Music you have Genius re-examining all the files and then all this is interfaced with the Music service in case what you did to your files affects things there.

Sorry but what do you mean by subscribed to music?

This is not solved. iCloud Music Library is off and saving changes to metadata is still slow as molasses.

Oddly, I didn't notice this until the other day. Possible I hadn't edited any metadata since updating to 12.2, but that seems unlikely.

FWIW, I have a large library (35,000+ tracks), but never experienced any slowness until now.

Please tell me Apple is working on a solution to this. Any track I try to edit the info on just takes forever to save. I can't believe Apple put out this release without testing this first. Like you Muxlow I have a large library and have not had this problem until this version of iTunes. I probably won't even use their streaming service since I can stream from my own library using Plex, but I signed up for the 3 month trial anyway so that Taylor Swift can get her royalties (joking).

I'm having the same difficulties.  Trying to change the metadata on TV shows takes a MINIMUM of 1 minute PER EPISODE.  Since iTunes 12.2 also decided to categorize half my TV shows as songs, and all of my movies as home videos, this is unacceptable.
