Q: My Photos Application on OS X 10.10.4 won't show Panasonic DMC G70 rw2 files

Hi community,

I am new to OS X 10.10.4 and the Photos application. I have bought a Panasonic DMC G70 system camera and store the pictures taken with the camera in raw format on the SD card. When I import my photos to the Photos app and click on them to open for viewing, only the first picture I clicked on is shown correctly. All the rest will only show the gray attention sign. I have done all available updates to 10.10.4. What is wrong, am I missing a specific converter program or dmg? any help is appreciated!

I am afraid the RAW format of your camera is not yet supported by MAcOS X 10.10.4.  At least I cannot find it on the list of supported cameras:  But check for yourself.

OS X Yosemite: Supported digital camera RAW formats - Apple Support

If the camera is not supported, use Panasonic's software Silkypix to develop the RAW files and convert them to a supported format, TIFF or JPEG.

And only then import the photos to Photos.

    Hello leonie,

your answer has helped me a lot. The program you mentioned is really great. And I think there is good news to all users of the same camera  coming as IOS 9 and OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) will be available In fall 2015. This morning I installed IOS 9 public beta on my iPhone and voila, Photos shows all raw pictures. I can not state this for El Capitan too, because I haven't installed it on my iMac yet. I will post again as soon as I have got any results. Again thank you very much for your helpful answer.

    Regards

    Photos shows all raw pictures.

Photos may be cheating you. I could not find any indication that that iOS8 and iOS9 actually have RAW support. The previous iOS versions simply edited only the embedded JPEG in the RAW file and ignored the RAW masters. You could test that by sharing an edited image to your Mac and compare the quality.   That would be good to know.

I hope the final El Capitan Release will bring more RAW support. At least there will be some improvements for Photos.  Apple — OS X El Capitan

The problem is that the G70 is called G7 in all countries but Austria Germany and Switzerland. Apple very quickly added support for the (equivalent!) G7 but forgot to add the G70. This is really a bummer ... I have the same problem.

    tell Apple - https://www.apple.com/feedback/photos.html

and Panasonic as their marketing decision is apparently causing this
