Q: Syncing photos with iCloud?
I'm a bit confused by the whole iOS / OS X photos update in general, and I know this topic has been covered quite a bit, however i haven't found a definitive answer to my specific query.
Bare with me here:
I have a 500gb Macbook pro and iPhone 6 128gb for personal use and an iMac at work + 20gb iCloud storage plan. In an ideal world i want to use all three of the devices seamlessly via iCloud, at the moment i can only use iCloud photo library on my iPhone and work iMac, save a photo and it appears on the other device, make a change to a photo and it changes on the other device etc. great. When i try to turn on iCloud photo library on my macbook pro I'm told that "this mac is storing 42gb of photos and videos. you have 12gb of iCloud storage available"
This doesn't make sense too me! i didn't buy a macbook with a 500gb hard drive, store all my photo albums going back the last 10 years or so, only to be told if i want to have access to the iCloud features, i need to subscribe to a larger storage plan (i'm already paying for a google drive as well). Is there a way of choosing; what goes into the iCloud or perhaps from a certain point onwards. I don't need 24/7 access to my 'Magaluf '07' photos wherever i go! Or just even any workaround to this annoyance?
(btw photostream is an absolute waste of time - the fact making any changes to photos is not replicated across devices is ridiculous)
THANKS - sorry for rambling, this doesn't even look like a question anymore, more of a rant! i guess the question is the bit in bold.
