Q: Photos not uploading to the icloud.

I just updated my system to Yosemite and now have the new photos app.  some of my pics uploaded to the cloud (1600 or so) but not my entire library (my library has 20,000+ images).  I have purchased extra storage to accommodate more images but i can't get the systems to sync.  Also, I started to edit the images from my laptop but when I checked on my desktop, and when I checked in the cloud, the images are still there (the ones I deleted).  the whole reason I did this was to have my images sync across all of my devices.  and finally, by doing this, will i have access to my projects from all my devices?  I am hoping to finish books that I am working on at work from my home laptop.

I would appreciate help from anyone on any one of these issues.

Thank you!

Tammy

Have a look at this document:   Use Photos and iCloud Photo Library on multiple Mac computers - Apple Support

It explains what will sync via iCloud between your Macs.

Unfortunately the books are one of the exception, that does not sync:

These items are available only on the Mac where you created them:

    • Books, cards, and calendars
    • Slideshows
    • Keyword shortcuts
    • Unused keywords
    • Last imported album (this album contains photos you most recently imported on a specific Mac)
    • Faces tiles and Faces data

    As to your sync problem:

I just updated my system to Yosemite and now have the new photos app.  some of my pics uploaded to the cloud (1600 or so) but not my entire library (my library has 20,000+ images).

Uploading the library may take a long time. As long as the number of uploaded photos keeps changing, albeit slowly, just wait.

Some items are not eligible for iCloud upload.  Does your Photos library contain referenced photos? That will not upload.  Also image files that are no photos but graphics may cause problems or videos with unsupported codecs.

Also, I started to edit the images from my laptop but when I checked on my desktop, and when I checked in the cloud, the images are still there (the ones I deleted)

Have you emptied the "Recently Deleted" album in Photos on your Mac?
