Q: Music home sharing no longer available after ios 8.4 update?

I have been searching for a way to access my home music library from music after completing the ios 8.4 update. Any way to connect now? The option seems to be missing.

iPad 2, iOS 8.4

iTunes Match is a very reasonable $25 per year, and your music library doesn't count against any iCloud subscription tier you may also have.  It's not possible that what you're seeing is Home Sharing of your home system.

i believe the way it werks ,saves space, is that it goes through your library checking your tunes. The ones that are currently in their library that you own are not necessary for you to upload. You get linked to theit repository for those tunes. Only the tunes that are not currently in their library need to be uploaded to your icloud storage. This is a space saver.

OR I'm I way out in left field

I am able to use home sharing on 8.4. You just need to install the apple remote, add your itunes library in the remote settings and pair your device through itunes on your mac. Then you can control the playback on your Mac or Apple TV.

    *sigh*

Home Sharing is not playing music from the Match Service or iCloud. It is not using Remote to control your iTunes computer from your phone or iPad.

Home Sharing is a feature that still works on your Mac Laptop or Desktop, if you have another Mac nearby. You set your  iTunes Library to be Shared (or the other person does), and the other computer then sees your iTunes library as an alternate source of music. After choosing that source, instead of your local library, it sometimes takes a moment to copy over all the locations of all of the tracks in the other library (not the files, just the names, albums, and cover art,, etc.). You can then play those tracks on your other Mac. It does not control the original Mac. It does not involve streaming from the cloud, but streaming of the files on one Mac to another.

What was removed is the ability to do what I just described with the 'Music' app on your iPhone or iPad. Until the update, you could choose your Desktop/Laptop Mac as an alternate iTunes source. It has nothing to do with the Remote app. Remote is for controlling that computer, not playing the tracks in it on your iPhone/iPad.

Well it looks like there might be hope. Ironically, I have since installed Plex and started playing with it and have found it to be even better and more stable than Home Sharing ever was, so not sure I care anymore, but this is the latest on the issue.

I was surprised at how easy and reliable it was to set up as well -- especially when it comes to video, pulling in artwork and even theme songs.  Audio and video stream quality both excellent

Eddie Cue tweeted a couple of hours ago: "We are working to have Home Sharing in iOS 9."

BTW, this was in response to:

Hey @cue, I hope I don't have to be @taylorswift13 to get you to restore Home Sharing for music! #ios84

    Wish I'd thought of that.

So we're just going to have to wait until 9.0 is out to get the feature back. An annoyance, but at least I don't have to start looking for replacement technologies.

Happy to see Plex get a boost from this whole debacle. They make awesome software and the video features are tremendous.

@ddrucker, I don't know if this will help, but I've been using an app for years call Audiotap on my iPhone and Mini, both on iOS 6.1.2. It also works on my iPad Air 2 on 8.1.2. Not sure about 8.4 yet.

The app costs a few bucks, and there's a companion app for the Mac that's free called Mediatap. They work together.  It not only lets you control music in your iTunes library on the device, but also the remote Mac, and incorporates Airplay. What's more, you can stream the music back from the Mac to your device! Finally, it works both on a LAN, and over the Internet , though it takes a little fiddling with your router. It's sheer genius, and it still works!

    Have a look.

Audiotap/Mediatap was broken by the 8.4 release, READ REVIEWS ON ITUNES.

    Save your money.

Actually, I've had Audiotap since it first came out… way back. Was either free or a buck at that time. But not happy to hear it's broken under 8.4.

I'm j-broken on 8.1.2, and trying to decide whether to update to 8.4. Believe it or not, no Audiotap may be a deal breaker for the time being. Thanks for the info.
