Photos for MacAperture is still in your applications folder and runs just fine if you we're up to date (version 3.6)
In Photos you have two main views - Photos view which is in photo date order and subdivided into years/collections/moments and All Photos view which is in data added order (to the extent that date added is available)
Then you have a number of system albums for different purposes and your Aperture projects converted into albums and stored in the Aperture Projects folder
and going forward you can create albums and smart albums and use them along with folder for organization
Or just keep using Aperture until some future update/upgrade breaks it or you replace it with another program

Jul 7, 2015 5:38 PM in response to LarryHNby johnfromcedar park,Thanks. I was able to retrieve Aperture by deleting the program and re-installing from the "purchases" section of the app store.
Photos did NOT create an Aperture Projects folder. It did create iPhoto Events.

Jul 7, 2015 11:17 PM in response to LarryHNby Harri Flex,Firstly I imported my iPhoto Library to trial the new programme. Eventually I then reluctantly setup another Library, importing my Aperture Library. Why then did Photos lose all but 3 of my Albums?
As a retired Pro, I am appalled that my image management systems are now in such a mess and will need days to sort out!
I cannot believe how Apple have so badly let down its loyal users, many of whom proudly carried the Apple User Banner. Many of us I am sure, do NOT want to subscribe to an expensive Cloud based storage system, that we don't trust. Haven't Apple made enough profit?

Jul 8, 2015 6:01 AM in response to LarryHNby johnfromcedar park,LarryHN - I was posing a question. I want to know if the described process has worked for anyone. From google searching it seemed the answer is no.
The instructions state
"Projects and subfolders migrate to a folder labeled “Aperture Projects"
This did not happen for me. I am asking if it happened for anyone else? If so, then maybe I did something wrong and should seek a solution. If most users are not getting the Aperture Projects folder created, then I should not waste time learning Photos and stick with Aperture. Perhaps avoiding all future OS upgrades to make sure I can still run one of my most important programs.
Did you formerly use Aperture? If so, did you have a, Aperture Projects folder created? Did you have to do something special to cause it to be created?

Jul 24, 2015 9:37 AM in response to LarryHNby Harri Flex,My newly upgraded Photos archive is in such a mess now, having attempted to migrate my iPhoto and Aperture Libraries. For some reason my lost Aperture Albums have been saved as iPhoto events for some reason. I haven't to time to sort them manually, so guess I need to go back to Time Machine and recover a previous "Back-up date Folder"? How then do I deal with recently imported photographs that won't appear on this "Backup Restore"?
I can't believe how Apple have allowed this to happen, affecting so many photo enthusiasts!
