Q: Cannot delete bootcamp partition/free space on HD (OS X Mavericks)

The problem is more than likely that the OS X or the other partition were created as coreStorage volumes. When you guys go to Yosemite the problems will be worse. You can change the volumes back to HFS+ if FileVault isn't on or you don't have any other inception on the disks.

Open Terminal, and run this (you can copy/paste):

diskutil cs list

This will give you a list of partitions similar to this:

Okay. See how it says “Revertible: Yes”? That means we can convert it back. You’ll need that super-long string of letters/numbers. In the same Terminal window, type:

diskutil coreStorage revert [THAT LONG STRING OF STUFF]

So in this particular case, we would run:

diskutil coreStorage revert 47F9D6B1-F8F2-4E64-8AD4-9F2E2BD78E29

This is valid for a single-disk CS volume, which can be reverted. Fusion drives (SSD+HDD) require a lot more work.

I attempted to remove my BootCamp partition with the Boot Camp Utility, but failed. I was given some "Unknown Error" so I tried what the you tub video showed. That was still unsuccessful, so I did some more digging. I Checked the Logs after the partition Utility was done, and found the error "Invalid Free Block Count". So, i then booted into single user mode, (hold "command + S" during reboot) once the text had stopped scrolling, type in fsck -fy then hit enter. (there is a space before the "-") This took about 2 minuets and that had successfully corrected my "Block Error". Once that was done, type reboot and hit enter. Once your MBP is rebooted, go back into the disk utility and drag the Macintosh HD partition all the way to the bottom. This is what worked for me WITHOUT having to wipe and restore my MBP.

I have a Macbook Pro with Yosemite which is about a month old.

It has 250GB HDD, which I had partitioned as 190GB (Mac) and 60GB (Windows).

Later deleted the Windows partition using the boot camp utility. It went through.

The windows volume isn't available anymore however, the space didn't get added to the Mac volume.

Boot Camp doesnt show the option of deleting Windows partition anyomre. I dont see it anywhere. Basically, all I see is a shrunken HDD.

mine say " Yes" but it says needs unlock the process start and ask me for  Passphrase: ( try to wrote it) but can´t no dont why? so can you help me because if i dont unlock says this:

Can you boot using Internet Recovery. Please see OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support for the steps to boot into Internet Recovery.

yes i can but that doesn't mean the system will "free" that space, that is useless now...because probably he just will wright on the "assumed" space free...

Please turn off FileVault2 and do the revert again.

i tryed that already...and still ask for passphrase..

and also say, that way is non reverteble...( where it says "yes...blabla..bla..) if you turn valt of and decript after says (No revertible)

You need to supply the passphrase that was used to encrypt your FV2. You should already have it since it your machine.

I found a solution that really works for me... i created a new, bootcamp installation, a new windows the hole process again, so them i stay with 3 partitions, one was the main os x partition with 185 Gigabyte  another with the new recently install Windows with just 18 gig and the "gosht" free space with 60 gig, them when the installation just finish went back to boot camp and erase windows from there and it will say that you will unify in a single partition and it says will be 185 gigs...."so, i said, ok this wont work"....but it will...it will unify all the content and also the "gosht" space you have and now...i have all my space again ...250 gigs back....Very happy ...hopefully this will work for you too!!
